Well true to form, Nick hammered some aces down, but he was matched his opponent Altmaier, who was playing in front of the home crowd.    Anyway he came through in str8s.  He could face Tsitsipas if Stef wins his match today.

FAA had a tougher time, but he won in 3 sets.  Hubie won in 3 sets as well.  They are all in Halle.

At Queens Club( Cinch), Ruud is facing a name that I haven’t seen in any main draw yet.  The name is Ryan Peniston.  Sounds like a Brit.  He took the first set in a tiebreak.  Casper is now desperate to stay in the match.

Oh my!  Ruud has fallen at the first hurdle on grass….lol.  Lost in str8s.  2 tie break sets.

Well Tsitsipas is vulnerable on grass.  That much is obvious.  He just dropped the second set to Bonzi in his match. Took a BR break, and is now trying to win the first game to start the 3rd set.

Well he won the match.  Berrettini is now trying to hold on in his match vs Dan Evans….who is no slouch on grass, but he finds himself down by a break and a set.  He is trying desperately to hold his serve to make Berrettini serve for the match.

Stan got through a nail biter against Tiafoe.  Great match.  3 tiebreak sets.  Stan had match points in the second set.  Tiafoe served for it in the 3rd set.  Stan won it in eventually.

Tiafoe should have won that match.

Miss_Vee, TTC has switched to your boy's match.

Sek, I am not the faintest bit interested in Denis’ match.  IMO, he is just going from bad to worse.  Feddy was right about him.  He has too many bad habits.  Can’t break them.  No discipline, and he thinks because people rave about his exciting game, that he ranks up there with the great ones.  So disapointed in him, and in his inability to take constructive counsel.

I know I sound like a broken record, but I repeat Denis will be ok. He will have a Stan like career where he will win 2-3 big ones later on in life after he matures and finds the right coach.

Sek my heart can’t take it!  Lol!  That’s why I’m removing myself from the emotional attachment in watching him play tennis.  When he is good, he sooo good!  Terrific viewing.  One of the best.
I hope you are right about him maturing later, because I’m sitting on the fence at the moment.

He will not sek, he is going to reach a slam final but will not win one, for some reason his stiles reminds me of Robin Soderling.

lol sugarplum and you talk about my memory! I totally forgot about Davydenko lolol.  But Miss Vee, he's too petulant and immature.  Very entitled.  He has the ability to be at the very top but has no discipline and desire to put in the necessary work.

Hey Fedex, how I can’t forget that horseman, I wasn’t a fan until I saw how professional and dedicated he was to the sport, let’s see if Shapovalov can become as dedicated and respectful to the game.

I’m here to support the other Canadian….FAA.  Don’t like his game style as much, but he is holding his own, and is on the leaderboard for most match wins so far.  Tsitsipas leads the pack with 36 match wins.  I think Felix now has 30 wins, as of today, as oppposed to 12 losses so far this year.

Sportswriters here in Toronto are keeping tabs on Shapo’s losing streak at the moment.

Shapo and FAA are seen here as big hopes for one or more GS Titles.  Given what happened in 2027, when Shapo beat Rafa in Montreal in their first meeting, and then he zoomed up into the top 20 quickly, everyone had hopes for his continued ascension up the ATP ladder. He made the semis st Wimbledon a year ago.  Everything was starting to look more promising.  Now look at him.

FAA has proven the steadier of the 2 young guns, and I can see now making a final in more big tournaments.  I just wish that he had more of the “go for the jugular” mindset in him as well.

Don’t forget sugar, Canada isn’t exactly a bastion of top tennis talent, until a few years ago.  Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisil made tennis more popular in Canada.  I know we have had some players years ago like Caroline Bassett, who made the semis at Wimbledon.  Interest was spotty at the time.  Now, Canadians are following tennis more eagerly now, with the emergence of Bouchard, Andreescu, Leylah Fernandez, Shapo and FAA.  We have players to root for now.

Exactly missvee ‘big hopes’ they haven’t win anything yet (GS), so they need to hold their horses up and let it happen .

Miss_Vee, I have watched a few of FAA's grass matches. He really needs to clean up his game. Out of the blue he will hit an UFE not even close to the line, or just miss an easy put away at the net.
It is almost like he has mental fatigue.

My criticism of both FAA and Shapo is that they do not seem to possess that killer instinct that all great Champions seem to have in their gut.  I sit through some of their matches wondering if they are going to win….especially Shapo, ( I stopped recently).

FAA does not have the killer instinct, he has the weapons, he lacks belief.
Shapo has the killer instinct, his problem is he does not respect his opponents. He feels entitled to wins because of his game style. He needs to be "humble" like Rafa and Alcarez.

I hear what you are saying about Shapo.  I have to agree with you about him not respecting his opponents.  I must say that these parent/ coaches often do not do a good job of making sure their kid realizes that they have to respect their opponent.  Nobody is assured of the win….all things being equal.

Medvedev is being given a grass court tennis lesson by Hubie in Halle at the moment.  He just was given a bread stick loss in the first set courtesy of Hurkacz.  C’mon Hubie.  Don’t dislike Medvedev, but I like Hubie’s tennis more.

Goodness gracious, Hurkacz is everywhere!  What a point from Hurkacz!!  Medvedev is being handed his behind on a platter….lol.  And Hubie keeps motoring on.
Medvedev’s coach just left the sidelines.  Cannot watch anymore.  This is the No 1 ATP player.

Meanwhile over in London Town, Berrettini is sailing away trying to grab his second title in as many weeks.  He will not suffer a loss in ranking point too much from the stance that the ATP has taken re the Wimbledon debacle.

It took 62 mins for Hurkacz to totally dismantle Medvedev.  It is the second time in 2 weeks that Medvedev has reached a grass court final, only to be totally outclassed by his opponents.  This is the ATP No1 player.

Berrettini has won his second consecutive Queen’s Club Championship title.  Winning grass court titles 2 weeks in a row.  He and Hubert are going to be favourites entering Wimby.

Or either, especially Hubert, can lose to Fucsovics or Lajovic and no one would be surprised.

Fedex what a cynic you are to be sure.  I have faith that Hubert Hurchacz will do well at Wimbledon.  His run to the SF a year ago didn’t surprise me.

Medvedev is running all over European grass courts to make sure that he holds on to the No 1 position.  He really doesn’t have to do so.  His favourite time of year is coming up. Hard court tournaments start after Wimbledon.

Miss_Vee, you do realize Medvedev is not allowed to play Wimbledon, right? In addition to that, he missed most of the clay season after he had surgery. I do not see any reason why he should not play all the grass events available to him.
He earned the number 1 ranking by winning the USO (taking out Novak) and making the finals at the AO. Not sure why you are disrespecting him.

Honestly Sek,  I know that Medvedev is great on hard court, and is finding his way on clay and grass.  However he is a very one dimensional which works for him on hard court.  It was not a very good showing last weekend when he lost to a random player who happens to be good on grass.

It was not a good showing today against Hubie either.  He wasn’t even competitive in either final.  Was it nerves?  How can that be?  He was simply outclassed by both players.  I don’t expect that in a final with a top 5 player, never mind the world No 1 player.  Just saying…..

The more reason for him to get in more matches on grass and get better. Unlike your girl Osaka who runs away from clay and grass, looks to me like Medvedev is not afraid to try and lose. Eventually, he will master these surfaces.

You mentioned Osaka, but she was on my mind as well when I spoke about Daniil.  I know that he should get better, but some players never do get better on this surface.  Osaka has the right gifts to play well on grass.  Is simply that she doesn’t have the belief, and thinks the surface is too slippery.  She said she is wary of injuries on grass.  So it’s in her head.

Look at what happened to Bencic today.

Daniil should be working more on incorporating more different looks to his game on grass.  He seems to do that at times, but he is more comfortable trading strokes from the back court.  Doesn’t work well enough on grass.  I found it very disconcerting watching Medvedev not have any answers to Hubie’s tactical game style today.
