Star, I said that I’m not rooting for Sabalenka over the way she responded to Gauff’s win. Cannot remember if I said it here however. Re: Osaka, it has been a long journey in decoupling from her in my fondness for watching her in action, and wanting her to regain her status at the elite level. I still would like her to do well, but I’m fatigued from watching her mood swings, and listening to her sadness in post match interviews. She is not a balanced individual. She is up and happy with wins. Losses are devastating for her on this comeback trail. She compares herself to Belinda Bencic, marveling at her results post maternity leave. That is her primary mistake. Her journey is different from Bencic. Osaka was in bad shape when she returned to the tour January 2024. Belinda was fit.
One thing that I need to emphasize here Star, is that I’m a retired R.N, and did work in mental health post retirement for about 5 years on a casual basis. I recognize the need for those that need help, accessing it and maintaining it on a consistent basis. Osaka did access the help eventually. Not sure if she has maintained it, because her profound sadness after many losses…some of which she should have won, have seared her soul. She is deeply impacted. It’s akin to her being traumatized by these losses. It’s very visible in her post match interviews. I cannot stand to watch her sadness personally on an ongoing basis. I’m now exhausted by her. In all honesty, I’m doing this for myself…not against her really…lol.
The last straw was her behaviour during that the final in Mtl, where she forgot?!? to congratulate Mboko. As I have had time to dissect her behaviour, I’m actually more alarmed for her, by that admission. That suggests that her mind is so fragile, she was totally scattered in thought process. IMO, unless she starts winning big titles, or even a 250 level title, she will be DONE psychologically. Her tennis is great at the moment. She’s actually back, but it’s her fragile mind which is her downfall. We have seen that the game of tennis is more mental….and Osaka is profoundly lacking in self belief, and self esteem.
