Six hour event.
Planning to put different chip/bib numbers on each participant.
Participants are on teams of from 1-4 per team.
Have done team relays before, but this is unknown number of laps (could be 40-50 laps perhaps) where only one teammate is running at a time.

I see laps instructions and team relay instructions. Can they co-exist? One person may do four laps then hand off (over the mats) or they may do one lap and hand off, etc.

What about down time ... no athlete on course ... then they resume? I assume dead time is dead time, but overall time includes it somehow?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I think RD has everything covered except for "dead time".  As long as each relay member has their own bib number AND you have the exchange after the participant finishing a lap crosses the mat, you should be fine.  The team member who completed the lap will be aligned properly with each lap.

Hi Roger,

Dead time was more a wonderment question than a real need. We have done similar races, but it has been a while. We appreciated the tip about handoff past the mat. We once did it over the mats (now that I recall) and then it was random which of the two team members got credit for the finished lap. I had to go back after the fact and correct if the outgoing runner got credit for the incoming runner's lap.

The override process is a bit different and it was important to pull only new data once we did an override so as not to have to repeat that process.

It went well and I appreciated the prompt response.
