The Pipits: next Algonquin winter trip, Feb 26-28 2027

Hello Pipits!

We had a fun trip to Algonquin this past weekend!

I'm hoping to get a report with photos out to you this week...

Let's talk about next year's trip.

Fri Feb 26, Sat Feb 27, and Sun Feb 28 2027.

The Pipits outing would be from noon Fri until noon Sun, with an all day outing Sat.

In celebration of it being my 60th birthday, I wanted to ask you to consider and tell me whether you will make the trip next year?

My favorite place to stay outside the Park is Wolfden Hostel and Nature Retreat, in Dwight.

I am considering renting out the main lodge and bunkhouses for this 2027 weekend.

It would cost our group $2070 inc tax to have exclusive use of the main lodge rooms, bunkhouses, sauna and fire pit for this weekend.

The lodge hosts shared washrooms... 3 toilets, and 2 showers.

There is an upstairs loft which is a shared lounge space, an industrial sized kitchen which is for shared guest use, and a shared dining area, all within a beautiful log structure.

I think this would be a wonderful way to spend the weekend, we could have a potluck meal, or plan to cook on the Fri, go out for dinner or cook together on the Sat, hang out and get to know each other better, or just relax independently in the multiple spaces available throughout the lodge when we aren't out looking for nature. 

Here are the room capacities...

Room 1:  double
Room 2: double
Room 4:  2 singles
Room 5: 3 singles
Room 6: queen, single

Bunkhouses...
Loon East: queen, 2 singles
Loon West:  double, single, plus upper bunk
Bear East: double, two singles, plus upper bunk
Bear West: 3 singles, plus upper bunk

We will probably take one of the bunkhouses for ourselves, tucked away in the forest.

If 10 of us commit to going, it would cost us each $207 for the weekend, which truly seems like a reasonable cost to me anyhow.

Note that the goal of Wolfden is to facilitate folks' connections with each other and with nature. 

As a result, there are no tvs or other forms of technology in place, although there is wifi at the lodge.

Sounds fun but I wouldn’t be able to commit this early for the lodge accommodations but I assume that one could still join in on the park excursion without staying at the lodge.
