Hello Pipits!

This Sunday, we will be having a guest leader, Marcie Jacklin! We'll be travelling a little further afield, to follow along the Niagara River, looking for gulls.

Marcie has been birding for over 30 years. Currently she is the Niagara Regional Coordinator for the Second Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas (2021-2025);  Winner of the Canadian Wildlife Outdoor Person of the Year Award 2021 https://cwf-fcf.org/en/explore/awards/winners/2021/stan-hodgkiss-award.html?src=PR; President of the Community Voices of Fort Erie (https://www.change.org/p/ten-story-condo-going-up-in-waverly-woods ) and Canadian Co-chair for the Birds on the Niagara:  An International Winter Celebration http://www.birdsontheniagara.org/. 

Gulling on the Niagara River can be exciting and on a good day over 10 species of gulls can be observed. This is one of the more challenging groups of birds to study in the wild but with any luck we may find some goodies.

Marcie shared this plan for the morning: "We will try at the Queenston Sand dock but if there are a lot of fishermen we might not be able to get in. Whirlpool should be fine. Not sure about Dufferin. We could do Kingsbridge first, lunch break at Tim Hortons in Chippawa and then back to paid parking for anyone that wants ."

So we'll meet at Adam Beck, and take it from there with Marcie in the lead!

Niagara Parks charges a fee for parking, so best to arrive with a credit card to pay at the various locations.

Please only register if you have had two COVID vaccinations, and sent me proof of this. Please remember to bring your MASK for those times when we have to be in close proximity.

The weather looks poor for tomorrow, with a travel advisory in effect.

I am cancelling the outing. I will see if Marcie thinks we can reschedule to later in the winter.
