Hey Pipits,

Just wanted to share this with you, from Bruce MacKenzie! If you have a chance, go look for the bird at Grimsby Wetlands, also called Biggar Lagoons.

We'll be looking for this bird when we return from Quebec.

Hello Everyone,

Just a short note about an exciting find at the Grimsby Wetlands. Wanted to share the news.

Last Sunday a Cinnamon Teal was observed. I will let you read the article for yourself to see all the news.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/cinnamon-teal-in-grimsby-1.7327330

The fall migration is well underway and there will be plenty of birds to observe. The Teal was seen in Watcher’s Pond with plenty of Wood Ducks and muskrats.

Beside donating to help out with our work at the Grimsby Wetlands the next best thing is to let others know of what the Hamilton Naturalists’ Club is doing at the Grimsby Wetlands and how they are always welcome to visit. The more friends the better. Please share the link with others.

A Fall Newsletter will be arriving later on.

Let us know if you have any questions,

Good luck Doug! The Cinnamon Teal is being seen today, been there for days, so it will hopefully be there still!

Nathan and I went down today. Head mostly tucked in which when combined with all the vegetation makes for a hard id. Lots of people to help out as always. We did get a brief look when it was preening. Good luck all.

I went to see it a couple of days ago. The red iris is stunning! Hopefully everyone who goes gets good looks (or as good as it gets there).

Cheers, Ben

Saw it yesterday. The bird was hard to see with bare eyes, buried way out in reeds with green wing teals and wood ducks and gallinules. Bring a scope if you can. Watch for a bird with a lovely rusty colour to its face and head, with a large dark Bill...a bird larger than it's green Winged friends. Lots of photos of it on eBird!

Hi Mary Ellen.

It was still there this afternoon. I found it within two metres of where I saw it on Saturday. It is about 20 m straight out from the viewing platform that is along the east side of the large pond which I think is called “Watcher’s Pond”, but I’m not sure. However, to get to where I saw it, walk straight back from the road, and instead of turning left onto another trail to go to the observation tower, continue straight for another 80 m until you see the viewing platform on the berm along the left side of the trail. The bird was about 20 m straight out into the large wetland from that platform. Both times it was remaining in one location, and being fairly still except for some preening, even though the other nearby ducks were moving about. It is somewhat hidden among the brown stems that are almost everywhere in this wetland.

And I forgot to add... thankfully Marcie was there when we were yesterday and helped us see it!
