Sawed Off Shotgun: Poisoned

The beginning of May 1998 saw the end of the NHL Conference
Quarterfinals. The Washington Capitals, Ottawa Senators, Buffalo
Sabres, Montreal Canadians, Dallas North Stars, Edmonton Oilers,
Detroit Red Wings, and the St. Louis Blues won their births into the
Conference Semi Finals. "The Hit" invited Paul out for a beer on
Commercial Drive one evening as the NHL Conference Semi Finals began.
He was poisoned, as someone dropped something in his drink. He was
barely able to walk home with Paul. He spent the next 36 hours
puking. His life on Commercial Drive was not going well. The Clan
from Clavet had won the PR battle on Commercial Drive, and he pondered
what to do next as he worked on the Speedeclaim-com project through to
the end of the first week of May.

The Child's Revenge

The first call over the weekend at the end of November was to Leo. He
called to thank him for his help as executor of the town drunks
estate. He let him know that everything went well with the bank.
Then, he told Leo that MJ had called, and he had news for him. "The
Hit" told Leo that he had a daughter, and they had spoken last week.
Leo had never let on that he knew during the call earlier in
November. Leo sounded apologetic about forwarding the phone number to
MJ, however "The Hit" jumped in and said it was the right thing to do
in passing the information along to MJ. It's all good! Their plan at
this point was to meet each other in Saskatoon, and Leo should have a
chance to meet Cayla in Saskatoon. "The Hit" went on to confirm that
he would like to visit for Christmas in December, if that was still
what he wanted. They agreed to keep in touch regarding the details,
and the digital footprints of the town drunks son returning to St.
Brieux were etched in the phone calls, bank records, and tax
declarations of income in 1997. The only problem was the Black Van
parked in the back on the lane.

Conspiracy to Commit Murder

In Saskatoon, Becky came by "The Hit's" trailer in Star Trailer Court
about a week after meeting in The Bay in Saskatoon. They talked for a
while in the kitchen, and she did everything but tell him that she was
pregnant with his child. "The Hit" said it was cold, and he offered
the spare room to Becky. She refused. She said she was going to go
downtown. It was not until just before Donny moved out that he saw
Becky again towards the end of March. "The Hit" returned home from
downtown Saskatoon, and Donny and Becky were talking in his room.
When they came out of the room, "The Hit" was surprised to see her.
She left shortly after they came out of the room. That's when "The
Hit" learnt from Donny that Becky had moved just a few blocks away on
Idylwyld Drive. "The Hit" did not know the address, but Donny told
him it was just a little south of the Liquor Store on Idylwyld Drive.
Donny suggested that "The Hit" should take her, however Donny didn't
know about the earlier visit from Becky. "The Hit" just shrugged it
off.

Clan from Clavet

In his suite, "The Hit" could not see the man with the cell phone from
the window. He sat down for a moment to decide what to do? He
decided he would rather see the event unfold in front of him, than he
would have to make his stand as someone came through the front door.
He took his gun and bag outside to the second level balcony, and he
set the bag down on the balcony. Then he waited. It took only a few
moments before a cab stopped on Victoria Drive just passed the end of
the driveway on the west side of the house. Three men got out of the
cab, and they started towards the house. The cab must have been told
to stay, because it did not pull away. The three men were not
residents of the house. "The Hit" was ready with his loaded sawed off
shotgun in his bag, and if they came down the driveway he could shoot
down on them. If they came through the house he would have them on
the stairwell. He did not recognize any of these people to be from
the Clan from Clavet? This was going to be bad!

Bob and "The Hit" walked back to his Subaru Legacy in the parking lot
in front the Pacific Central Rail Station. What "The Hit" saw now was
a whole new level of activity as Jimmy The Junkie, his crew, and his
"Mysterious Financier" were setting up Vancouver Hell's Angels with
the note. He did not understand how this connected to the Saskatoon?
Bob gave "The Hit" a ride back to Burnaby, and he returned to the
Onlineglass-com project, while the TV computer barked out news of the
United States military deployment in Nairobi Kenya. The Americans
were introducing their military personnel to support the U.S.
Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. Meanwhile, "The Hit" had his own
bombs to worry about with Jimmy The Junkie, his Crew, and the
Mysterious Financier. He wondered where the American fight against
terrorism was during the Philadelphia trip?

The female Vancouver Police Officer led "The Hit" down the hallway to
the Britannia Hockey Arena, and she unlocked the exact door which "The
Hit" had tried to open earlier. He knew he had the right place
because he actually popped his head inside earlier when he checked the
hours of operation. She sat him down at a desk. He placed the zipped
bag on the desk with the barrel pointing away from both of them, and
she must have noticed his precautions because she asked him what was
in the bag. "The Hit" said "there is a gun in the bag, it's a sawed
off shotgun". The Vancouver Policewoman called for "backup". It
seemed a little extreme to call for backup too "The Hit". Then on the
other hand that might not be such a bad idea? She asked if it was
safe to unzip the bag. "The Hit" said yes it's not loaded. The
officer took the gun out of the bag, and for all intents and purposes
"The Hit" considered the return of the sawed off shotgun to the
Vancouver Police Department under the gun amnesty to be completed.

"The Hit" starting to feel the worms in his stomach again. He hoped
he could straighten this all out when he got back to Vancouver after
Christmas. "The Hit" knew Jimmy The Junkie and his Crew could not do
this without the support of funds from the Mysterious Financier. He
was starting to wonder if the Mysterious Financier had roots in his
past in Saskatoon. The Indian Reserves of Tunnel, Swahliseah,
Trafalgar Flat, Klaklacum, Skawalum, Stullawheets, Kaykaip, Squeah,
Albert Flat, Qualark, Yale Town, Kuthlaith, Yale, Stout, Saddle Rock,
Spuzzum, Papsilqua, Teequaloose, Skuet, Chapman's Bar, Long Tunnel,
Yelakin, Austin's Flat, Paul's, Shrypttahooks, Tuckkwiowhum and Boston
Bar. "The Hit" did not know most of these places existed, and he
wondered if they had a Free Lands Homestead Act of 1872 and the Grid
Road System. He stepped out for some fresh air at North Bend, and the
weather was getting colder. He wondered what the temperature was in
Saskatoon? He got back on the train.

Saskatoon Rebels

The Canadian train cut through -30 degree Celsius weather on steel
tracks past Biggar before finally arriving in Saskatoon on December 22
nd at 00:45 in the morning. When the Canadian Train pulled into the
VIA Rail Station, The Hit was worried about Cayla and her family. He
worried about their safety. Would the Mysterious Financier setup the
Saskatoon Rebels? The trains horn sounded one last time at the train
station, as the Canadian Train came to a rest for The Hit. He walked
into the VIA Train Station on Chappel Drive in Saskatoon. He entered
the VIA Rail Train Station in Saskatoon through frosted stainless
steel and glass doors to a hallway which led to the waiting area. He
recognized MJ and his 9 year old daughter Cayla from her pictures as
he walked down the hallway. He consciously checked around her to see
that she was safe as he put on his best face to meet Cayla for the
first time. She gave him a hug. It was a good firm hug. She could
hug pretty good for little girl.
