please find attached the latest draft of the program for the One Visayas Climate Change Summit.

 

we are suggesting that you basically set the stage/the tone for the entire summit by covering the following in your presentation:

 

1) the science -  the IPCC findings ( global, regional)

                      -  national and for the visayas (baseline or crrent)

                      -  scenarios - A1 and B1 (2020 and 2050)

 

2) mention Phil GHG inventory (one slide lang so peoplke know what teh cources are and relative contribution)

 

3) the enabling environment - institutional structure, policies, activities/initiatives

 

4) adaptation and mitigation for sustainable development

 

that way, the context for the sectoral presentations would have been set and the sectoral experts can go straight into the impacts on their sector and what needs to be done (adaptation and mitigation). yon ang kulang sa meeting kahapon. it slipped our mind to first set the context. kaya tuloy each expert still covered it at humaba ang presentation.

 

originally, may slot sana si dir julian amador to present the recent GHG inventory. howver according to joy goco yesterday, hindi pa daw ito tapos. since you are doing it for them anyway, she suggesteed that you just cover it in your presentation 

 

do let us know if you have any questions.

 

james esguerra will got to cebu on april 27 to meet with the local team from NEDA) and thresh out all the details. if anything should come up that will affect your presentation,  he will let us know. he is copied to this.

Dear all, Here is an initial list of the availability of the resource persons and their likely availability for the May 11 inputs, and 12 outputs. Rodel will be arriving from China the night before and I was asking him if he could land directly in Cebu on Sunday night.  Otherwise he will need to be pushed back to the afternoon so that he can make it.  He will check his schedule he says. Roger has something set, but he will double check his schedule. How about Lory, Neric, Bebet, Fr. Jett, and Glenn?  Can you give me an initial sense of your likely arrival and departure dates?  Do we still bring in Evelyn? and the person from the WB?  and Gov Joey Salceda? For energy, I spoke with Al, and he is ok to present for May 11. Once our scope of work, and working arrangements is settled, we can then proceed to to process the notes from the Experts Council, follow up on the speakers, and work on other details. Dear Neric, Bebet and all,

I am taking the cautionary comments of Rosa Perez seriously - re the use of the Flood Simulations.  I have reworked some slides, and made it very clear that these are Flood Simulations and not Forecasts.  I explain further that, although these simulations may provide a rough indication of which areas are vulnerable to sea level rise, storm surge, saltwater intrusion or a combination of these impacts, no one can categorically predict the rate and extent of climate impacts at this time.  Therefore, if governments or corporations use these Flood Simulations as a tool for planning adaptation programs, they must be fully aware of this and understand that although things may not get this bad, the combined impacts of these three phenomena may still lead to similar impacts on natural systems, infrastructure, mobility, health, economic activity and population concentrations in the scales shown.

hi james,

 

i can be there the day before, may 10, as long as i take the late afternoon flight. just to do final coordination meeting with NEDA.

 

actually all the sectoral presentations are after lunch. so rodel can fly in on the mornign fligth from manila.

 

for tourism, i want grace favila to handle that instead. i will check re availability.
