Key points from the meeting with the organizing committee 2009 Aug 27:

Venue: The venue will be the Cebu International Convention Center.  The plenary hall is about 38m wide and almost 70 m deep.  It has two large screens, fit for the space.  Rear or front projection is possible on the screen.  There are 6 break out rooms down stairs.  The 2 smallest rooms are about 10m x 10m; the next sized is about 10m x 20m (there are I think 3 of this); and still one more that is larger than this.  The largest group can work at the back of the plenary room where we can set them up.

Materials for upload:

Templates Deadline:  The organizing committee also requested that we send the templates for encoding before hand, preferably prior to May 9, also.  So that the rapporteurs/ documentors can set up their systems and be accustomed with the templates.

Presentations deadline: They are requesting that we send the presentation files before May 9, so that they can already upload the files to a website.  This is also one way to minimise the use of paper for the summit.  Maybe we can send the files in pdf, at 3 slides to a page, or 2 slides to a page.  They have to be a bit light in terms of content and file size.

Day 2 afternoon input materials (advance copy):  The organizing committee also requested advance copies of the input material so that they could peruse this before the presentation and so that they can also prepare for the discussions.  This will also be included in the materials that will be uploaded in the website.  The material will be on: Climate Change Resiliency Tools for LGUs; Case Study Materials (Albay);  Carbon Finance; and Legal Aspects of CC.

james,
thanks for this update. looks like you forgot to include me among the list of consultants and positions.  don't worry, i know this is not intentional.

can you please upload all the presentations last friday on our website or send it to my email (whichever is faster)?

pam,

i expect that you will handle all our bookings. i can go to cebu on sunday afternoon (may 10). will either go back to manila tuesday night or fly out to hongkong to connect to a flight to beijing.  paki book muna yong papunta. i will firm up my fligth details for may 12 by wednesday at the latest. thanks.

dear team,

i don't know to what extent we have coordinated with the presentors to get their revised presentations for the visayan summit. pakitutukan silang lahat kasi all those who presented last friday need to make revisions to  their presentations:

1st:  remove all references to the background on CC.  this will already be covered by fr. jett.

2nd: on the impacts for the sector, aside from general impacts to the philippines, as much as possible zero in on impacts for the visayas. for example, for energy, we need to mention existing energy sources in the visayas and how these are likely to be affected by CC consequences.

sa agri, more focus on the main crops in the visayas, corn, rice, sugarcane, coconut

3rd: more specfic recommendations should be added to the draft road map or the measures needed. this is what they are looking for. gusto sana nina mayor mel sarmiento, mas specific na and recommendations from the experts.     again, for example in energy, opportunities for mini-hydro exists in some islands of the visayas. more serious effort to explore them should be done soonest. geothermal in negros occ also needs to be put on stream asap.

many LGUs in the visayas are seriously looking at jathropa. what's our position on this?  if limited to marginal lands and will not displace agri crops, okay na ba ito? what about ethanol from sugarcane?
what does the literature tell us re carbon footprint of bioethanol?

bottom line, we have a lot of work ahead of us before may 9.   will help as much  as i can from here.

warm regards,
bebet

by the way, we also need to assign the facilitaors already:

james, mara and kristin can facilitate 3 groups. lory, neric and i can also facilitate.  fr. jett, would you be willing to facilitate one wokshop group? we need 7 facilitators kasi.  the other one we could possibly tap is bonar. but i need to check with him first if he will be in cebu at that time.

let's have a meeting re this facilitation anytime from may 6-8.

thanks and warm regards,
bebet

It is still part of the agenda.. of all things.. he he.. In fact that is critical to Cebu.  May have been an oversight on my part or on the program.. Sorry, and thanks.

Hi Bebet,

Will be happy to help out, if really needed (noted there were already a number of facilitators on board). If i will go, can you ask someone to email to me the program & expected outputs, facilitation guidelines and details on flight/accommodations (e.g. i may need to get prior approval if PBE will fund my trip)? Someone called my office (while i was in a mtg), but left no details.

Thanks,
Lisa A
