Departing California Donuts #21 at 4:30pm
I guess it was a couple months ago or so I saw that the
Capri Club ride had posted the route they were going to do that week. It looked fun (i.e. there was a big hill), so I went. It
was fun.
And, as I often do after a ride goes somewhere fun, I wondered if we had gone up that hill at some point on The Passage, taken those roads. And, as is also most often the case, we had indeed. We had been in the general vicinity several times, in fact. Though only once did we take the particular road we had ascended on the Capri ride and never on the road it descended. That is because we had actually come from the other side of the hill and descended that first road.
This was early on:
Passage #52 - Call Me Al. Long enough ago that I can't picture it in detail, but I do recall it being an early favorite. I also remember it being one of the rides in which we started upping our proverbial game, in terms of exploration and ambition. There was a big hill. And some off-roading. And some hike-a-bike. It too was fun. (Kudos, Nathan, for the excellent route!) And though my vague recollection is that it really felt like A LOT at the time, in retrospect (and having rescouted recently), I can say that it is nothing too terribly crazy by our later standards.
So, anyway, here's what I'm thinking: that fun + fun = more fun. We'll do more or less the first half of Call Me Al, then descend like the Capri ride and do a version of the middle part or so of their ride (hitting a few of my favorite spots along the Arroyo that they passed up). Is that all too much? I dunno. Maybe? But that is one reason I'm doing it as an earlier, before-dinner ride. If it sprawls out a bit, not quite as big of a deal.
The other reason is that I think it could be nice to be up at the peak around sunset. Barring incident, the timing should be just about right if we depart at 4:30, I reckon. To reiterate: this ride will depart at 4:30pm.
So, a little sunset ride on Sunday. See you then!
(30 miles; one big hill & a few small ones; a little off-roading; a tiny bit of hike-a-bike)
