So, this is my theory about what is going on. If you did not watch the
show last night, let me just give out an obligatory Spoiler warning.
Also, as for my theory, let me preface it by saying that every theory
I have had and publicly shared about this show has turned out to be
wrong, so take this with several heapings of salt.

I think one of the most fascinating moments last night was when Flocke
was chasing the ghost child through the jungle. Only to have the kid
say, "You were not supposed to kill him"(probably not an exact quote).
Flocke then yelled something along the lines of "You can't tell me
what to do"-author note-I do not have Tivo or DVR to replay these
scenes, but also, I am too lazy. This was a great scene because it
also echoed AlternaLocke's issues with coming to grips with his
paralysis.

Now, for the theory-I believe the kid has some kind of god like power
and has kept Jacob and Flocke fighting each other for centuries as a
game(like backgammon, which Locke explains to Boone in the first
season-and yes, I got that from the replay of the previous episode)

The above scene shows that there is a power out there that even Flocke
is afraid of and that there are rules he must play by. Perhaps the
coming episodes we will learn the rules, therefore, we will learn what
is happening on the island.

Furthermore, maybe the others aren't necessarily protecting themselves
and the Flight 815ers from Flocke, but from the creepy, godlike ghost
kid.

Okay, that is my theory-I look forward to it being ripped to shreds
next episode.

is there any chance that the young boy is Aaron?

I thought the boy said "you ARE not supposed to kill him", as in
flocke is not supposed to kill sawyer. and that was when flocke
started yelling "you can't tell me what to do!"

hmmm, I might have misheard that. Well, crap, another theory down the drain!

as for the kid being Aaron, he looks a little old-Aaron would only be about three years old at this point, right? But then again Ethan was supposedly born in 1977, making him 31 or 32, even though he looks to be in his early 40s. Either way, I like how this show is shaking up!

If taller ghost Walt can show up wherever, why not future Aaron? In fact, what if taller ghost Walt was the same kid, and like Justin mentioned, there's a third party here? He seems to be acting like a ref. Flocke can kill Jacob because of his loophole, but the rules prevent him from killing Sawyer. He's killed other people on the show, though, so why now? He has to recruit, presumably because he can no longer kill the losties, although the Others are still fair game.

No I still think your theory is pretty good. I definitely think the
boy is some god-like entity. Or at least he's most likely at the top
of the food chain on the island. After all, he was telling Flocke what
to do. And Flocke did mention that he was mortal at one time. Very
reminiscent of angels....

I was wondering about the god like / angel aspect. Also, it seemed as if the kid could not be seen by Richard, but Sawyer could see him no prob. I wonder what that's about?

they did say that Sawyer was a candidate, did they say Richard was?
Maybe only candidates can?

it's interesting that they chose a kid for that part who looks very much like he could be a young jacob.

FWIW I think that the kid and Flocke are brothers/best friends who
came to some major turning point/life obstacle and went their separate
ways.

As per lostpedia:

The casting call described him as "Teenage boy, caucasian, 12-14. Dirty blond hair. Wise beyond his years. He's got intense, searching eyes. He's dealt with a horrible family accident. Even at a young age, he has been put in charge of something very important, and it weighs heavily on his shoulders."

I'm wondering now why did Flocke use the old " you can't tell me what I can do" line? For a sec I really thought he was Locke ( I mean I didn't, but you know...)  Considering he has been pretending to be Locke, that might work on other people ( in terms of keeping up the ruse ), but the kid, and Sawyer know he ain't Locke. I wonder if he felt like Locke for that one moment. Also, thinking about it it seems like he would have responded in a different way...

I'm sure this is no big deal, it just popped into my head.

I'm a little late, just saw this ep now. At first I thought the kid was the reincarnation of Jacob, since they look just a like. But yeah, since that little interaction between him and Flocke I now also think he's the overload of this crazy chessmatch. And that Sawyer could see him since it was suggested that he could be a potential candidate to replace Jacob himself. Whereas Guyliner could not because...well, he's just more of an advisor to candidates. Or something, I have no idea.
