I'm bettin Ben's promise is the same promise he made to Widmore about
killing Widdy's daughter Penny. Also, did you guys notice Ben was on a
dock when he made the phone call to Jack? Can't figure why no one
would question all the blood/bruising on Ben's face. Maybe everyone is
just so used to seeing him that way on the island. And if Ben did
indeed kill Penny, wouldn't that then cause a crazed Desmond to go
after Ben and bring Desmond back into contact with the island?

I had a very familiar thought about Ben's promise as well, but the whole crazed Desmond thing didn't cross my mind. Very good call.

I loved that. But not only was it Y, it was the Spanish-language
version of Y - much like the spanish Green Lantern/Flash comic that
Walt was reading on the island...

Definitely noticed the Y. Awesome!

Makes sense that Ben goes after Penny (a) b/c Widmore killed Alex, and (b) to get Desmond to come to the island. Not sure the writers would go there just yet (and make her death so bloody), or ever though -- I think Desmond can die as a martyr/sacrifice, but not Penny, b/c that would be the ultimate win for Ben, who clearly must lose. The blood could very well have been all Ben's as he is clearly hurt, so maybe Ben attacked Des/Pen and they fought back. Also, why make a phone call from the scene of the crime? True that he did seem freshly wounded and out of breath, and pretty much everything on this show happens for a reason, so the pier def plays in somehow.

Speaking of things happening for a reason, what about that (Indian?) dude who said sorry to Jack for this friend's loss? They wouldn't have put in that line for nothing, and then have him interact with Hurley on the plane...

Maybe that other guy, and the other passengers, are the ones in the boat with the Ajira water bottle?

I guess we're back in the 70s now by the way, as Jin is driving a clearly brand new Dharma bus? When Locke turned the wheel he must have stabilized the island, and it 'landed' in the 70s? Have Sawyer and Juliet etc been recruited into Dharma?

True, all the blood could be Ben's own. But Ben probably would have made that phone call right after committing a crime due to the high sensitivity of time the group has.

I'm not so sure the Losties are back in the 70's. I think the whole bus/Jin wearin a Dharma suit was more of a visual device to throw off the viewer (and not really pertaining to the plot). If the Losties were able to get onto the island I'm fairly sure the island would at least have to be in their timeline for them to get on. Of course, the island could've jumped in time after they arrived, but who knows....

The "indian" guy was actually one of the dudes who served with Sayid in the Iraqi National Guard. They showed him in flashbacks a few seasons ago.

Yeah, but that Dharma van looked brand spanking new, whereas the last time we saw the van in the present timeline it was old and beaten up. Unless that just happens to be a different van.

Wow good call on that guy serving with Sayid (I was thinking Indian b/c of Ajira, and thought maybe he worked for the airline and was undercover or something).

Yeah I think they made it a point to show that the bus and uniform were brand new. Unless they found a leftover Dharma stash hidden somewhere...

i think it makes sense that we're in the 70s now. That would mean
that Charlotte is probably a young girl now on the island. She
probably learned how to speak Korean from fellow Dharma recruit, Jin.

Speaking of Jin in a Dharma uniform:

The DHARMA logo on Jin's jumpsuit is mostly obscured by his collar,
but appears to be a five-pointed sheriff's star.

Scroll down to the bottom where it says "General"

I could be wrong, but I vaguely remember Sayid (or someone) saying the
same thing to Jack in the check-in line for the Oceanic flight as
Sayid's former colleague (?) says to Jack in this episode. Something
like "I'm sorry about your friend."

Does anyone else remember this?
