Apparently, The Lamp Post Dharma station "is in reference to The Lion,
the Witch and The Wardrobe, the first book of The Chronicles of
Narnia. In the book, a lamp post marks the passage between Narnia and
our world. The Lamp Post serves a similar function with regard to the
Island."

This whole page is quite interesting, especially the coincidences with
Charlotte Staples Lewis (C.S. Lewis):

ALSO this reminds me that a lot of the character names correspond to
some other sort of famous person/figure:

Ben Linus = Benjamin is the youngest son of Jacob in the bible. And
his mother died giving birth to him, just like Ben's mother did.

John Locke = John Locke, English philosopher

Jeremy Bentham (Locke's pseudonym) = Jeremy Bentham, English
philosopher (whose ideas were opposite of John Locke's) Bentham was
one of the first Enlightenment thinkers to assert that the ultimate
end of a man's life was the acumulation of happiness, usually in Intro
to Ethics classes taught as "The Greatest Amount of Happiness for the
Greatest Number of People." Its important to note that Bentham equated
happiness with basal plasure (as opposed to a well-lived life, like
Aristotle.) He also was interested in prison design.

Desmond Hume = David Hume, Scottish philosopher. Hume is funny because
the real Hume was a staunch believer that we lack any real reason to
make inductive claims about the future based on our past experiences,
so much so that he did not believe it was even rational to say we knew
the sun would rise tomorrow.

Daniel Faraday = Michael Faraday, English chemist and physicist (who,
ironically, studied properties of electromagnetism, which we all know
is an important part of the island.)

Charlotte Staples Lewis = C.S. Lewis, the Christian theologian who
wrote The Chronicles of Narnia.

Danielle Rousseau = Jean-Jacques Rousseau, another philosopher who
also looked to the State of Nature as a normative guide.

Richard Alpert = Richard Alpert, also known as Ram Dass, is a
contemporary spiritual teacher who wrote the 1971 bestseller "Be Here
Now". He is well known for his association with Timothy Leary at
Harvard University in the early 1960s, both having been dismissed from
their professorships for experiments on the effects of psilocybin on
human subjects. He is also known for his travels to India and his
association with the Hindu guru Neem Karoli Baba.

Eloise Hawking = Stephen Hawking?

Mikhail Bakunin (the Dharma dude with an eyepatch) = Mikhail Bakunin,
a philosopher who supported anarchism and questioning authority.
Ironic, since he was one of the Others who was fanatical in following
orders.

Juliet Burke = Edmund Burke, Irish philosopher and political theorist
(Edmund Burke was also the name of Juliet's ex-husband)
