Yeah I know, the title sounds like it should be a band name. ha....

But here's a question....

Hurley won the lottery in the alternate timeline.
Did he play the same numbers in the alternate timeline??

4 8 15 16 23 42

Hurley first heard the numbers from Leonard in the mental hospital.
Leonard & friend Sam Toomey originally first heard the numbers in 1988
while they were stationed in the south pacific while in the Navy.
Their station picked up a transmission of the numbers on a repeating
loop (supposedly the same one Rousseau & crew heard when they first
landed on the island, around the same time.)
They believed that the numbers were cursed after Toomey used the
numbers in a game of chance and had a plague of bad luck....eventually
leading him to commit suicide & Leonard to insanity winding him up in
the mental hospital. (these facts can be found on lostpedia)

So...
If in the alternate timeline, the island is under water, then Leonard
would have never heard the transmission of the numbers (assuming the
transmission was coming from the island), which would never drive him
crazy & put him in the mental institution, therefore never meeting
Hurley in the mental hospital and telling him about the numbers.

So I wonder if Hurley was lucky because he played different numbers
possibly?
Or if he did play the same numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42, then how did he
come across these numbers or choose them.

It's interesting already how even though the alternate timeline is
very different, there are still some key things that are the
same...... just the fact that they are (mostly) all still on the plane
and connected in some way.
Kate still is there as a key person in the delivery of Claire's baby.
So who knows..... maybe Hurley does meet Leonard at some point in the
alternate timeline.... but does Leonard know the numbers?

It's interesting, b/c prior to the alternate timeline I was thinking
that possibly if the numbers weren't used for some sort of bettering,
or righteous purpose that it would cause bad to happen, or tip the
scales etc.
Because the numbers are part of the Valenzetti Equation, which is a
math formula designed to predict the end of humanity.
The numbers in actuality are said to represent human and environmental
factors in the equation (given numerical form), though their precise
meaning is uncertain. One purpose of the DHARMA Initiative was to
change the factors leading to humanity's demise, which will be
indicated by an alteration in at least one of the human/environmental
factors - i.e. the numbers. (that can be found on lostpedia)
Anyway, so Hurley has won the lottery and now has good luck...... I
wonder what numbers he chose?
Also I always thought that when we hear the transmission loop of the
numbers after the young Rosseau and crew arrive on the beach, it
sounded like Hurley's voice repeating the numbers.
Wouldn't that be a crazy circular time loop??
Anyway... something to think about.
