I've dedicated this recording to Henry Butler's memory. He was supposed to play a solo piano show this night but had to cancel due to his health issues. Three Keys brought in James Blood Ulmer as a replacement and it was very heavy deep harmolodic guitar blues. This is my recording:

James Blood Ulmer - electric guitar & vocals

Notes: I'm dedicating this recording to the memory of Henry Butler, may he rest in peace. Butler was originally scheduled to play this slot as a solo piano concert. His concert was cancelled, presumably due to his fight with colon cancer, and a James Blood Ulmer solo show scheduled in his place. I only heard about it the day before when JBU was on WWOZ radio being interviewed and playing a few tunes live in the studio. No way would I miss JBU. I saw him once before at the House of Blues Parish room during Jazz Fest 2004. That gig was heavy, with Jamaaladeen Tacuma & Grant Calvin Weston. This solo set here was just as heavy, but in a different way. I sat on the floor in the sweet spot (where the included photo was taken) so I could actually see JBU play from behind his music stand. Unfortunately, this recording is incomplete, as I left while he was still playing and I'm not sure how much longer he played.
