Hey all you fellow archivists...  apparently back in the early 80s Porter Jr and Zig played Jazzfest under the name "The Metrics". We are on a search for that recording. I'll try to track down the exact date.

Zig still performs "Gospel" (sometimes with Nick Daniels on vocals)... The version here that segues into Ain't That Peculiar is really fantastic.

The Metrics
(Zigaboo Modeliste, George Porter Jr., Tony Dagradi, David Torkanowsky & Scott Goudeau)
New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival
New Orleans Fair Grounds
New Orleans, La.
April 28, 1984

1 intro > DTP > 9:04
2 Lonely Woman 6:23
3 Out of the Back of the Truck 6:15
4 Wooly Bully 6:17
5 Gospel 10:06
6 Ain't That Peculiar 10:18
7 unknown 8:01
56:28

Source: TDK SA90 cassette master (labeled #3/84) > my DAT

Note: tape flip occurs about 5:56 into Track 2, and about 23 seconds were lost. I spliced in 51 seconds (including fade in and fade out between sources) from a first-generation copy of an alternate source, beginning at 4:13 into Track 2. The first +/- 15 minutes were lowered 1.3 db to match the rest of the recording.

In addition, there was apparently a pause during the recording, just before the encore. A crossfade was applied at 9:49 into track 6.

This 2010 DAT transfer is a re-tracked and re-edited source (an earlier edit was done around 2000 but was only saved in audio CDR format).

Everything but the download link ;)

Seriously, Richard, you made the most of your time in NOLA tracking these things down.  Well done.

The text file is easier to get to than the recording... ;-)

The flac files are on a hard drive in the closet where some house guests are staying tonight. They leave tomorrow, so maybe tomorrow night I can upload it to Dime or Dropbox.
