2010-2011 Officers - Congratulations are in Order!!

 

Last Friday, The New Voice held its annual club elections for the organizing team, and 7 enthusiastic members stepped up and were elected to positions for the 2010-2011 year!!

Kevin Ly - Vice President Education

Sherin Bennett - Vice President Membership

Alex Lapitskiy - Vice President Public Relations

Francesca Cifuentes - Treasurer & Interim Sargeant At Arms

Nicole Taravella - Secretary

Faigy Mayer - Webmaster

 

The above officers begin their terms officially on July 1, but in the meantime they will be trained and mentored by the outgoing officer team: Steve Ramirez (President), Rick Sanford (Vice President Education), Teresa Michael (Vice President Membership), Claudia Powell (Vice President Public Relations), Sherin Bennett (Treasurer), Amber Patterson (Secretary), and Ashia Moultrie (Sargeant At Arms). Huge thanks to our devoted officers for the club's inaugural year!

 

Wanted to run for a position? Looking to volunteer? There is still one position left... the ever-needed Sargeant at Arms, who helps welcome guests and sets up the meeting room. Francesca has offered to fill this role in interim, but she has other duties relating to Treasurer, so please - someone step forward. If interested, please email me.

Summer Meetings TBD

 

Due to summer hours at the New School, we will be switching the date of our meetings. We had previously announced that we would hold meetings on Thursdays, but this may change due to scheduling circumstances. Please stay tuned - we will post an update next week...

Mentors Needed for New Members

 

We have a number of new members join in the past few months - I hope you will welcome them at future meetings.

 

Would you be willing to mentor a new member? You don't have to be an experienced public speaker, just encourage, give feedback, and offer ideas as requested by your mentee - helping them prepare for their first speeches, and get up to speed on the club.

President's Distinguished Club Award

 

In our first year as a club, we've had huge success holding engaging meetings, attracting motivated new members, and creating a positive learning environment, garnering the praise of the leadership of the NYC Toastmasters district.

 

In recognition of our accomplishments, we anticipate receiving a "President's Distinguished Club Award". In particular, I'd like to recognize two of our members whose educational awards helped us achieve this award:

 

- Irina Fadeyeva - our beloved club mentor achieved both her

 Competent Leader award and Advanced Leader Bronze awards for Toastmaster leadership positions and projects since 2007.

 

- Jacqueline Shaulis-Keggins achieved her Advanced Communicator Silver award for completing the Speaking to Inform advanced manual.

June Speakathons - Evaluators Needed

 

This June members of the The New Voice are invited to attend two Area Speakathons - which give club members extra chances to give speeches (beyond their own club meetings) - helping them to progress through the Toastmaster curriculum.

 

Although speaking spots are filled, the organizers are looking for people to help evaluate speeches at the following:

 
Speakathon I: June 4, 2010, Friday 6pm
Speakathon II: June 18, 2010, Friday 6pm
