In the early seventies a very unusual school called Ny Lilleskole
existed in Denmark. No 'education' took place there. There were no
text books or school bells, no exams or evaluations. Children had lots
of things to make and do. They swayed to music or spent hours watching
goldfish...Arvind Gupta tells you the whole story.

A very interesting read indeed. The credibility of the method of
imparting education in this society has always been questionable. The
process explained in this school might sound utopian to the children
(i would most certainly give my left hand to be in this school!), but
i doubt its practicality. It has been possible to carry out this form
of imparting education till a certain point of time only because its
in a place like Denmark, with high literacy rate and development.
People can afford to think different and practice them. When you speak
about a country like India, the very possibility is not only romantic
but also can spell disaster. Simply because we give a lot of impetus
to the society and our society itself has not yet been matured enough
to expect something like this. So when a kid goes to a school sans any
books or examination, that would be sacrilege. Anyway, i love the
sentence that says that it is perfectly normal if a kid looks at a
goldfish for hours. wish we all could look at our gold fish, world
would have then had people with lot more imagination, and who knows, a
bigger heart and love.

Loved the post.
