We are thrilled to have Michael Morlan as
our Guest Speaker on Wed June 8! Many of us have
worked with Michael, and as one of those fortunate folks,
yours truly can testify to his mastery. In a nutshell,
Michael SEES. His attention is completely focused on the
task at hand with an eye for detail concerning what needs to
be done and an artists touch in addressing issues, clearly
and efficiently. Mr. Morlan is a director of photography, union camera operator, writer, actor, and storyteller. Since 2005, he has finished fourteen feature films including five as DP, eleven as operator, two as 1st AC, and three as gaffer/lighting director. His credits include numerous commercials, music videos, short form narratives, and the 2008 Oscar nominated documentary Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience. Michael got his start in production in 1988 as a 3D animator for a large architectural firm in Houston. While there, his amateur photography experience was enhanced by an intense professional practice in real world and virtual light, form, color, and composition. Michael moved to Austin in 1995 to work as a script writer, narrative director, and animator for Origin Systems, a computer game developer and got serious about building a narrative film career in 1996 when he attended a local film production seminar and lit his first 16mm film. In January 2006, he retired from the game industry and became a freelance director of photography full time. |
