What is changing:
In March 2020, the federal government declared a public health emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, in response to federal requirements, MassHealth put protections in place that prevented members’ MassHealth coverage from ending. These protections are ending and MassHealth will soon return to the standard annual eligibility renewal process. In the coming year, all current MassHealth members will need to renew their health coverage to ensure that they still qualify for their current benefit.
These renewals will take place over 12 months. In order to help members maintain the best coverage that they are eligible for, MassHealth is working with its partners to make sure members know how to renew their coverage and are aware of other affordable health coverage options if needed.
What we’re asking you to do NOW:
As a valued community partner, your organization can play a vital part in helping consumers keep their health coverage. We are asking you to spread the word that MassHealth members should update their addresses, report household changes, and read all mail from MassHealth:
1. Share the attached flyer with your colleagues and ask them to pass it along to individuals receiving MassHealth and organizations you work with
2. At upcoming agency outreach events, mention the upcoming renewals and remind individuals receiving MassHealth to update their addresses
3. Spread the word in any other way that you can in your community (e.g., via newsletters, social media, emails, etc.)
To help with #1-3 above, we are attaching a Communications Toolkit with materials you can share with your community. This includes flyers, customizable blurbs for emails / newsletters, and social media copy. You can learn more about this effort on our website - MassHealth Eligibility Redeterminations.
What is coming in the future:
Renewals will begin in April, and we will reach out then with more resources, as well as dates for webinars and learning events that your staff can attend to learn how they can do more to assist our community during renewals.
Please share this information with any others who may need this information, so they are aware of this renewal effort.
Thank you!
