Happy Monday, Lexington!

Ross is in Germany this week, spending time with family, but that doesn't mean Lexington remains silent. You are reading the first all-girl-powered issue of The Lexington Project. Hope you've had a chance to catch your breath from last week's fun - think of this week as a salute to spring in Lexington. Everything's a little greener, a little warmer, and a little brighter. Make the most of it with the many Earth-friendly activities sponsored by our friends behind Earth Days in the Bluegrass, then cap it off this weekend with two fun FREE music events. Check out Saraya Brewer's Blueline Bluepicks featured in this issue, and get out there and enjoy your beautiful city in its prime!

Love,
Eli Riveire

** EARTH DAYS IN THE BLUEGARSS 2009**
Sponsored by UK Residence Life Sustainability and UK Greenthumb, EDBG is a month-long celebration of “sustainability, responsible global citizenship, and the power of local action.” Every new day brings events working towards the promotion of our community. Here are some of the highlights for this week:
* Wed/April 15 – Tour of Matthew’s Garden with Dr. Jim Krupa – 12pm, corner of Washington and Limestone on UK Campus

* Wed/April 15 – Bike Maintenance Clinic – 5-7pm in the North Campus Courtyard
Learn about your bike and how to fix it! Keep your bike healthy and it will love you for a long time. FREE, and also includes FREE FLAT TIRE REPAIR!
* Fri/April 17 – Wall-E Screening – 10pm at Worsham Theater, in the UK Student Center
Robot love. You know what to do.
* Sat/April 18 – Spring Bird Walk – 8am at the Arboretum
Start your morning with a lovely walk and an ornithological adventure. Don’t forget your binoculars! Pre-registration required (859-257-9339), $1.
* Sat/April 18 – Middle Earth Celebration at Good Foods Co-op
An entire day of earth-related activities at the co-op, including a workshop on worm-composting, making masks of trash to teach children about littering, and electronic recycling. All of this, plus a hot bar menu inspired by Middle Earth. Awesome!!
* Sun/April 19 – Bike the Bluegrass – 1-4pm, starting at the Wildcat Wheels Bike Shop (basement of Blazer Hall on the UK Campus, near the corner of MLK and Euclid)
Enjoy a 20-mile bike ride through the bluegrass with your friends. All skill levels are welcome, as the ride should be relatively easy and is designed to help you feel more comfortable using biking as a means of transportation.

** Sat/April 18 – Lexington Farmers Market in its NEW LOCATION

I had the chance to check out the new Farmers Market in Cheapside Park this past weekend and was absolutely charmed. What better way to spend a Saturday morning than finding the best tasting veggies and supporting local farmers at the same time! The weather should be pretty nice too, finally, so there really isn't much of an excuse. Full scoop at http://lexingtonfarmersmarket.com/.

** Sat/April 18 – DorbotLex #2 – 4pm @ CPR
Senom Yalcin’s technologically-savvy DIY group brings another fun day of projects. From Senom’s email, this program features:
> Circuit bent toys - by artist + UK School of Fine Arts new media professor Dima Strakovsky http://shiftingplanes.org/
> Phonograffiti - by Lexington based sound/visual artist Jason Corder aka OfftheSky http://www.phonograffiti.org/
