Hey, folks.
Started typing up a few picks for the weekend, then got ahold of Saraya's very thorough Bluepicks and decided there wasn't any need to reinvent the wheel. [Thanks, Sa-riot.] Tonight, check out Bill Santen & Bruce Burris' "SWAP" exhibit at the D.A.C. (bring something to exchange - full scoop is at http://elandfgallery.blogspot.com/2009/06/blog-post.html) and DO NOT MISS the group show/happening that Laura Glenn Holt has organized at the Miller House. Saturday, head to the Kentucky Proud Art Fair at the Good Foods Coop, then stop by Pop's Resale to help them celebrate 13 years in bidness.
Get out. Have fun.
Luv, Ross

Friday June 19: It's shapin' up to be a kickass gallery hop!

My top hop picks:
    * Hide And Seek : Art Show at the fantabulous Miller House (one of North America's architectural gems and Lexington's best kept secrets - here's an article I wrote -and more important, pictures - on the place). The show features local art from Robert Beatty, Reid Small, Case Mahan, Emily Frederick, Jerielle Hanlon, Lina Thursing, Laura Holt and many others, with catering from Bourbon and Toulouse and Bellini's. De-lish. 7 p.m.-10:30 p.m./ FREE
    * Buster's Collage Project : Construction at the new Buster's is underway! Stop by Old Tarr b/w 5:30 and 7:30 and get a FREE PBR (I can see the light in your eyes now) if you bring old music memorabilia - music posters, record sleeves, ticket stubs, Cd jackets, pictures from the old Buster's, etc. - for a collage project that will be incorporated with the bar design. Extra points (and PBRs) for anyone who can come up with a Boys Don't Cry and/or Elvis Costello "Trust" poster!!!
    * SWAP at the Downtown Arts Center. A "community art project in miniature formed by the exchange, hand held, between the visitor and the installation." Feat. artists Bruce Burris and Bill Santen.
    * Other fun stuff tonight: Big Maracas/ Swells Brass Band at Al's Bar; Johnson Brothers present Songs from 1969 at Natasha's Bistro; Circuit Des Yeux, Yuppies, Tiny Fights, Tenthaus @ Art Damage Lodge in Cincy)

Saturday, June 20:
* Good Food Co-Op Second Annual Kentucky Proud Art Fair - 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Live music from Casey County Organic Farmer Jerome Lange (10 a.m.-noon), Big Fresh (noon-1:15) and Little Maggie (1:15 - 2:15). The event will feature products from local artists (jewelry, soap, bowls, candles, and more!), local grilled food and family activities, including face-painting, print-making and folk-art. Support Kentucky artists and farmers and Lexington's only locally-owned grocery that specializes in local and organic products! Good Foods Co-Op & Cafe is located at 455 Southland Drive. More info at (859) 278-1813 or www.goodfoods.coop
    * Bat Mitzvah Celebration at Pop's! It's the 13th birthday party of Pop's, Lexington's top stop for vintage clothes and secondhand used vinyl, 8-tracks, electronics and general whatnot. Expect : snacks, live music (GODD is playing at 6 p.m.), specials, maybe even a dreidel or two.
    * Jovantaes/NEC/Abby a Go Go at Al's Bar~ definitely where the party is in Lex this evening. NEC is one of the most energetic and energizing rock bands that passes through Lex, in my humble opinion. See you there~
    * Black Hollies/Trophy Wives at Cahoots (Lou)

Sunday, June 21:

    * Kaleidoscope Micro-Cinema at Natasha's presents FLOW: For Love of Water, Irena Salina's award-winning documentary investigation into what experts label the most important political and environmental issue of the 21st Century - The World Water Crisis. Watch The Trailer.

The film's producer Gil Holland will be in attendance and will answer questions     after the film. Gil Holland is one of America's most prolific independent film     producers, having produced over 70 films since 1997, most notably "Hurricane Streets" which won a hat-trick at the Sundance Film Festival [the first time any director has walked away from the festival with three awards].

Pizza, Popcorn and full bar. For reservations call (859) 259-2754 or reserve online at www.beetnik.com. Seating: 6pm, Show Time: 8pm, FREE admission.

    * David Sedaris is doing a reading and book signing at Louisville's Carmicheal's Books (the Frankfort Ave. location). More info here.
