hi all;

ok, i was just thinking, right now we write fanfiction and post it on sites for people to read. Now, what if there was a site whair one could record there
fanfiction into mp3 format and then upload it. I think that people with ipods or other mp3 players would love this. And another thing, if the site designners
did it right (wich i would be willing to start if i thought this to be a good idea), they could set every storie/catagory/author/type of storie to have
an rss fead wich could be put into itunes or any other podcatcher and download when ever an update is maid. I think it to be a grait idea.

Now beta's what do you think of this since you are the ones who might have the worse time since you would not be betaing stories anymore. Or i guess one
would have to choose weather or not they wanna read there stories, or have a friend read it, or maby even a beta could read it.

Please pass on my email address:

and this email to other authors/readers and tell them to contact me with there ideas.

Just an idea so far, please do tell me what you think.

thanks a whole lot.

Personally, I'd love to have fics in MP3 format. I listen to Podcasts/audiobooks/etc at work all the time. I'm currently on chapter 7 of DH and have Pottreficweekly's (which I'm listening to as I type) Mugglecast's, and HP Prognostication's latest episodes to listen to. I know that Spellcast does fic readings once a month, too.

As for the no need for the beta if it's in audio format.... I don't think that's true. You may not need someone to correct spelling since nobody's going to *see* it, but having correct spelling and punctuation helps the person who's reading it to be able to pronounce things right, and to pause in the right spots...makes it easier to understand and listen to. You need the voice inflection to know if things are a question vs a statement vs an exclamation (? vs . vs !). Betas would help with that. Plus, my job as a beta isn't only to correct spelling and grammar. I also watch for/point out plot holes, awkward sentences (they'll still sound awkward if it's written awkwardly), characters acting out of character, whether there's not enough or if there's too much description in a passage, if there needs to be dialogue tags so we can tell who's talking and what he's doing, etc... The spelling and grammar is a *small* part of the whole beta job, at least for me.

Also, there are a lot of people who would rather *read* a story than listen to it. I think most authors would write for people to read, but then might add their fic so people can listen, too. That's how I would do it, at least.

Would you have a place for feedback? And a way for the author to respond? Feedback is very important to most (if not all) fic authors.

Does that help?

I actually like the idea as well, and with Podcasts being free, that
might be a good idea to set up a fanfic community with each episode
being a chapter. I agree with Julie about betas still being needed - I
know when I get something betaed, the grammar and spelling errors are
important to fix, but really what I'm looking for is comprehension.
Sometimes when I'm writing I get so into the story and what I know
that I forget that I have to explain everything to the reader, and
that makes things hard to understand if you don't have my train of
thought as a reference.

I'd imagine that you could set up a way to download the mp3 files and
then right below have a comments feature, sort of like voice posting
is on LJ.

Yes on the feadback. Now do you think authors would like to here or see feedback responces? I could do both.
