1.) An infrared sunshade to block out infrared rays while passing
visible light downward to the Earth.
2.) Jet contrails that cause cloud brightening. Brightening clouds
reflect a little of the sun's light and heat back to outer space. But
a little bit might add up to adjusting the world's radiative balance
back to normal.
3.) Volcanic explosions like Mount Pinatubo blasted huge amounts of
dust into the air that shaded the earth form sunlight and lowered
global temperatures for a while. That effect has been consistently
observed after major volcanic eruptions since temperature measurements
were recorded, The krakatoa eruption in particular.
Artificial means of doing that are being discussed as a way to cool
off the planet.
4.) seeding clouds in winter results in extra ice and snow that will
reflect warming sunlight back into space.
Last years 2008 weather in Alaska and canada show little support for
this idea. Naturally bigger snowfalls covered Alaska but in spring
they caused record melts and wet conditions that heated up bogs and
did nothing to lengthen ice and snow cover of the land up there.
5.) Dumping huge amounts of iron into iron poor regions of the ocean
to fertilize it and let seaweed and ocean flora bloom and they will
absorb additional CO2 from the atmosphere. Experiments on that idea
have been conducted.
The observations there were inconclusive.
