2015 - Week 4 - Power Rankings

I couldn’t think of any catchy theme for this week’s power rankings.  I did notice a few fantasy teams tightly tied to NFL teams in terms of comparison, but not enough to base the entire rankings on.  Rather than trying to shoehorn a theme into the rankings this time, I just decided to show the change from last week’s rankings.

  1. #1 Fuzzy Dunlop  [same]
Kevan has to go in #1.  Even though he hasn’t been scoring a crazy amount of points, he has put up consistent numbers and is 4-0.  Just like the Carolina Panthers, Kevan’s 4-0 record is somewhat suspect.  He has faced the fewest points against by a large margin, and his points for are in the bottom half of the league.  Still, the only undefeated team in the league is never one to take lightly.  Some may even argue that consistency is preferable.  He already has Tom Brady past his bye on what looks to be another killer season for him.  Other than that, no really scary players but a lot of consistent points.

  1. #2 You’re Killing Me Smalls [+3]
Bob has the second fewest points against and is in second place. This is no coincidence I’m sure.  He has also scored 95 or more points 3 out of 4 weeks, so another consistent performer.  Bob had been bit by the injury bug early on, but most of them are coming back from injury now.  It will be interesting to see if LeSean McCoy can add that one-two punch to go with Eddie Lacy.  Lacy hasn’t put up monster numbers yet, but he seems to save it till later in the year.  Bob will have a powerhouse if they both pick it up down the stretch.  His WR group have put up surprisingly good numbers each week.  Not sure they can continue to do so, but if they do Bob will remain difficult to beat.

  1. #3 Ronald McDonald [+5]
I guess the elementary school nickname wasn’t so embarrassing afterall. Ron is at the top of a 6-way tie for 3rd place.  His 2 losses came to opponents who scored over 100 points, and his two wins came when he scored 100 or more.  The core of Ron’s team is Jamaal Charles, Russell Wilson, and Jeremy Hill.  He is pretty hit or miss outside of them, but that is a very strong group to fall back on.  Someone may get lucky to face Ron on a bye week, but he will be formidable should those 3 stay at the top of their game.

  1. #4 There’s Something About Murray [+3]
I’d like to put my own team here but I can’t ignore Seth’s rise.  He has LeVeon Bell back from suspension, Carson Palmer is a surprise star again, and Latavius Murray actually looks as good as advertised.  The Texans suck but Deandre Hopkins doesn’t care. Seth has the second most points for even though he got off to a slow start. The scariest part is that there is not much to slow him down besides an injury at this point.

  1. #5 The MAshers [-3]
On the heels of a gigantic week 3, we have the highest points for going into week 5 - but just barely.  Seth has been catching up and he beat us this week after a pretty poor showing on our end.  Unlike Kevan’s consistent scoring, our team points have come in waves.   To be honest, our projections have never been great either, but we’ve benefited from some outstanding performances.  I’m not sure that’s going to be enough to win the majority of our games but I still think it keeps us in the top 5.

  1. #6 Finger Luckin’ Good [-3]
The 6 way tie for 3rd continues with Drew, but he is on the way down.  Thomas Rawls was your starting RB2 last week?!   What is going on?  The good news is that Cam Newton and Todd Gurley appear to be legit, and Doug Martin is going strong again.  Of course, that means you have to start them to get the points - but I’m guessing you’ll figure that out soon enough.  I still think the rest of Drew’s team is too unreliable to get beyond this point.  But 6th place still makes the playoffs, right?

  1. #7 Seriouly WTF?! [-3]
Jack was close to winning the beat down award again this week in a slightly less unfortunate way.  Last week he was unlucky to have gone against the MAshers on our biggest week (this week would’ve been better - but still a loss)  Jack seems to have bad luck though.  He actually has more points for than Kevan but he also has the most points against in the league.  While his record says he is 2-2, I don’t think he’ll end the season above .500.  It’s no coincidence that the Broncos offense is also struggling, and he is suffering from disappointing results.  Chris Ivory may help salvage a few wins, but Jack has neither reliable players nor potential upside.  Unless the Broncos can figure out how to score 6+ TDs a game again, Jack may be in for a disappointing year.

  1. #8 QB Browns [-2]
While I appreciate the Tecmo Bowl reference, and it brings back memories of my players coming back from injury, Matt’s team is as lackluster as the Browns themselves.  Matt is the first of 3 teams that have scored fewer points for than Kevan all year - and the other 2 teams are below him on this ranking.  While he does have the consistency of some of the teams before him, he’s unfortunately consistently around 80 points.   His two best players occupy the same position (QB) which limits his point totals.  And, while Amari Cooper continues to impress, there is little else going on at the skill positions for QB Browns to take advantage of.

  1. #9 Los Pollos Hermanos [+1]
Until last week I would’ve put Jeff and Matt as a tie here.  But Justin Forsett is storming back and Devonta Freeman has had two big weeks back to back.  If Arian Foster can return to form and Drew Brees can stay healthy, Jeff may come surging back into contention very soon.  Since the field above him remains tied at 2-2, his 1-3 record is not too far off.

  1. #10 Konami Code [-1]
Like the Eagles, Matt has made some miscalculations this season.  Sam Bradford was not nearly as good as anticipated from the preseason.  Frank Gore, and the Colts in general, have underperformed.  Ameer Abdullah is doing what Detroit running backs always do - fall off. He’s also had some unfortunately injuries, with Sefarian-Jenkins looking promising and Antonio Brown losing his QB (and then his production).  On the plus side for Matt, much like the Eagles, the field in front of him is so weak that he’s only a couple of wins away from being relevant again.

I think I would have preferred the shoehorn.  Reading this was like reading a job description.
What.... did you type this up while taking a dump?   Pileggi, you had 5 weeks to think of a theme.
Well,   Now I'm gonna use you as my theme next week

I did not write this while taking a dump.  I did my work while taking a dump and wrote this instead of working!  Sorry, to disappoint but if it helps you pick a theme then it may be worth it.

It was well written Pileggi, I was given you grief about the creative factor, but the memes have redeemed you.
You are now restored in my eyes as a true gentleman and scholar, my only wish is that you were running for president
