Since it looks very likely he'll be running a football coaching search in few months, I was wondering what you guys think of Wildhack.  He's had a very, very bad 2020 with what's gone on with the coaching staffs in softball, women's basketball, and men's lacrosse (including this past week's press appearance to cover his backside in his own ignorance regarding his support of Hillsman back in June when the first report from the Athletic dropped).

How much do you trust the former television executive to hire the coach of the second-biggest sport at SU?

Not one bit. He should be gone. His lack of athletic management experience has been a huge issue over the past year. He’s tried to cover 3, 4 coaches now. The athletic department environment found in the women’s basketball investigation was managed by him for part of the time at issue. That alone should be a fireable offense.

Agree with Edwin. He just seems over his head.

Surprised there wasn’t more of an uproar after the women’s basketball report came out.

Babers = all hype and no product.  The one great season was awesome, but he never built off that success.

Yesterday’s performance was hall marked by undisciplined play, stupid penalties, asinine play calling, questionable game planning, poor clock management, and terrible execution . . . all of which translate into coaching.

To be honest, the 10 win season had the exact same hallmarks. The difference was Eric Dungey. We’ve seen who and what Dino is: a mid-major head coach, if that. He’s in over his head.

As to Wildhack, the prospect of having him make critical hiring decisions over the next few years is depressing.

The 10-win season was pretty much a perfect storm where everything went right.

The offensive line used the same five starters for every game except when one of the five missed the game against Wagner.  Three of those five linemen have bounced around various NFL teams with a fourth still on the roster (Airon Servais).  Four different WRs caught at least 40 passes.  Three different RBs combined for close to 1,800 yards and 18 TDs.  Both starting DEs had 10 sacks, two LBs had 100 tackles, and the defense as a whole forced 31 turnovers and had 43 sacks.  Szmyt and Hofrichter were both all-conference for special teams (along with Cisco).

That was a remarkably talented roster without any superstars that was better than the sum of its parts.  It's an indictment of Babers that the offensive talent has been so poor since that time.  I would guess somewhere around three or four offensive players would start for the average ACC team.
