The University of Massachusetts Press is pleased to bring an author
series to the Jones Library weekly during the month of November.
This week's reading features authors Christian Appy and Clark Dougan.
UMass Professor Chris Appy and UMass
Press Senior Editor Clark Dougan started the series Culture, Politics,
and the Cold War for UMass Press in 1998. Since then more than thirty
volumes that explore the Cold War era, especially the War in Vietnam,
have become part of this well-respected series. Appy and Dougan will
discuss the genesis of the series and Prof. Appy’s new book, American Reckoning (Viking, 2015).
There will a time for questions and answers following the reading. Refreshments will be served.
Christian G. Appy is a professor of history
at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and the author of two
previous books on the Vietnam War. Patriotswas a main selection of Book of the Month Club and won the Massachusetts Book Award for nonfiction. He lives in Amherst.
Clark Dougan, now retired, was senior
editor at UMass Press for twenty-five years, where he shepherded
hundreds of scholarly books into publications. He is also author of
numerous books on Vietnam in the Time Life series The Vietnam
Experience. He lives in Pelham.
