to The Islander 29 project
hope everyone is having a great year so far. What are people doing
for winter projects? I've seen Bill's ambitious bottom work - awesome
job by the way! Any more updates?
I am still working on painting the deck. I have her shrink wrapped in
the slip for the winter so I am able to prep but it's just been too
cold to do anything but sand. I am dremmelling out then filling in
the big stress cracks in the gelcoat and leaving the crazing.
Hopefully the two part Interlux primer and paint will fill those in so
they don't come back. Only time will tell.
My next ambitious project I think is going to be removal of the stupid
Atomic Four. I hate it. I have it running but she leaks gas and I
spend way too much time fixing it. Sooo, my new repowering idea is an
electric motor. Hopefully I can save the $$ for it, but either way...
the engine is coming out. My question for anyone who has done this -
it looks like there is sufficient room to get the motor out through
the companionway, but what about the gas tank? Preliminary
measurements say no. Also, it looks like the tank is supported by
asbestos straps - but I've never seen those before so I'm just
guessing. I'm really stacking my brain to come up with a way to cut
up the gas tank without setting the fumes on fire. Since I am already
painting the deck, cutting out the sole would be only slightly more
work but that's what I say about every project :) Any thoughts?
