Hello all,

sad to say, our Islander 29 is for sale. We found a good deal on a
Cal 34, a boat I've had an eye out for years, so the Islander must go.

If anyone knows anyone who might be interested, here's a link to my ad
on Craigslist--

http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/boa/2029344723.html

She's a great boat, in solid condition, a bit rough on the interior
but workable and serviceable. Power is a stern mount Honda 15hp 4
stroke-- a very good match, imo.

Thanks, and happy sails,

Paul

Are you sure that's a 1965? I thought they didn't start building then
until 1967 through 1969?

It is strange and I did research it once...but have slept since and
forget...but the older boats like ours used a different process for hull
numbers. What we really need to go by is the sail numbers, i.e., I have
sail number 122 which I was lead to believe makes my 1967(?) I29 the
122nd I29 ever built. My paperwork states my boat was built in 1967 but
I have no proof...and I don't really care except for curiosity. Anyone
else know some facts about all this hull number Vs sail number Vs year
of the I29?

My I-29 was built in 1967 has hull ID number 2059 and on the main sail it says I-29 124. I don't know if that means sail number 124, I thought it had to do with the size of the main sail.

My hull ID is 2057, sail 122...so that seems to make sense.  I will re-research the old hull ID way of doing things, but the sail numbers I think tell the real story back then.

Hull numbering pre-1972 was on a 'voluntary' scheme basis so there was no government mandated uniform system.  Ah...those were the days!

Our sail numbers are the keys.  The very early <100's or so must be about 1966 models.  The 2 attached adds from Sept. and Oct. 1966 are the same boat/sail number 22 as an example.  I think this is a good time capsule date stamp showing the origin back to 1966 as opposed to the specs in this http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=691 saying 1968 was the first year.  Lots of conflicting information on the web about our boats but we do know they're great sturdy boats built in the '60's.  I guess it's true what they say, 'if you remember the '60's you weren't there!'

btw, i'm getting the year and hull number off the title.  I really don't know much beyond that.  the mainsail is not original.

It's probably correct.  Most people have the sail number(s) transferred when they get new sails and the documents are probably correct.  You can look under your stern lazerrette and probably find a little metal tag with the hull and sail number on it.

It's just a little fun for me to try and figure out some of this stuff about our boats.  The mystery is part of the appeal, charm, and character of these boats.

On mine, if you stick your head straight down and look forward (upside-down) it's right there kind of behind the port side seat.  About 3" x 2" as I remember.

My hull # 949 and sail # 100 are stamped right into the wood on the port side lazarrette bulkhead.
