I bought my 66' I 29 "LaDa" in Oxnard Ca 2 years ago. I live in Sausalito.
I was checking out Craigs List and saw this boat and drove down the coast and checked out some other boats on the way.
She was sound and ready to sail. Of coarse she had some minor visual issues but the price was right and I had done some research regarding early fiberglass/ bullet proof coastal cruisers to 30 feet. I looked at pearsons , catalinas and Islanders.
I bought her that day and spent 2 weeks getting ready to sail her back up the coast to the SF bay.
I told my sailing buddies what I was going to do, thinking someone would volunteer to come along but instead I was offered a 50lb CQR, new GPS, full survival suit, and other necessary gear.
To make a long adventurous story short, the boat was a champ in many situations and a perfect boat for a single hander.
I'm was 60 at the time and it had been 15 years since I had done any REAL sailing like that. A fact that had alluded me at the offset but became strickingly apparent just after dark, the first leg, tacking toward Santa Barbara harbor in the dark in 35 knot winds, trying to reef the main. That was an awsome "be here now" moment. LOL
Anyway, I made my way up the coast, harbor hopping and anchoring.
Coast guardies and fishermen all commented on what a great little "SHIP" she is.
Awsome experience.
In my opinion, the only real flaw is that the companion way is too deep and the cockpit drains are too small. The latter being the easy fix. I enlarged and added 2 more drains..
I'm also thinking about putting the standing rigging on the outside of the hull as seen in a photo someone sent to the group. If you have a dinghy on the cabin top forward it's inconvenient to squeze past the rigging going forward.
Enjoy
Jay

Good Morning Adam,
I have been taking quite a few photos and will have to familiarize myself with how to put them on the site.
Thanks for the welcome, Scott

Hello,
I recently purchased "Episode" (No. 1048 sail No. 106) and brought the boat up the river from the Berkeley marina to Hidden Harbor using an outboard on a transom mount as the Atomic 4 has not run in years. I'm currently having the Atomic rebuilt and modified a trailer to "haul" the boat out up the ramp here at the marina. It is sitting by the shop with the keel off for repairs at the moment. I pulled the mast last week and will be going completely through it a little latter, new spreaders, shives, winches, etc. etc. She has been neglected for many years and will take quite a bit of time and money to get her under sail again but I'm excited about the project. I have enjoyed reading all the information and comments on this site before I was able to get accepted and look forward to sharing what I'm learning about the Islander 29 as I pull her apart and put her back together again.
No Worries, Scott
