to The Islander 29 project
I haven't posted since last summer, but our I29 restoration project
continues even though every move we make creates three times as much
work as we expected. Regardless, we continue working. We're still
hoping to get her into Lake Ontario this summer, but have only just
started ripping apart the starboard side. The new port side (head,
dinette, etc.) goes back in next week (fingers crossed). And, if we're
lucky the A4 we rebuilt will actually start!
My question - as you can see, we're getting ready to reassemble at
least some parts of our boat, but are having some trouble with
plumbing. Our I29 came with thru-hulls connected to gate valves. We
were originally going to do almost the same thing (except replace the
gate valves with ball valves), but have concerns. Some thoughts:
1) The bronze ball valves we can find are only NPT threads, while our
thru-hulls are (of course) NPS.
2) We might use tri-flange adaptors to get from NPS to NPT so we can
use ball valves.
3) Two of our thru-hulls are 1/2". I cannot find flanged adaptor or
seacocks or thru hulls for this size anywhere.
4) I can find marelon ball valves (NPS) in 1/2".
5) We have read not to use marelon with bronze.
Any help from anyone who has redone their thru-hulls would be greatly
appreciated!!!
Thanks, in advance,
Tim (& Bill and Steve)
