I have written a piece which may be of some interest to some of you, dealing with how to square two seemingly incompatible ideas:
- That it appears consciousness has effects in the world (for example, causing David Chalmers to write a book on the subject, or people to talk about their sensations).
- That physics appears to be causally closed (only physical things can affect physical things).
This essay is my attempt to show how both ideas can be true, and consistent.
