Seliwanoff's reagent is a solution of ~ 0.125% w/v resorcinol in 3 M to 4 M hydrochloric acid. You can make it up by dissolving 1.25 g of resorcinol in about 500 mL of DI water, adding 250 mL of concentrated (37% or 12 M) hydrochloric acid, and making up the solution to 1 L. The solution is reasonably stable, but it's probably a better idea to make up a stock solution of the resorcinol in water (what in the kits we call Seliwanoff's reagent Part A) and make up the working solution as needed.

Many suppliers won't sell to individuals because they're concerned about liability. Seliwanoff's solution is hazardous because of the hydrochloric acid content.

Does anyone know of a source for Seliwanoff's reagent.
I've found a few places online that list it but they will only sell and ship it to a school or business.

Not sure why that is the case for Seliwanoff's reagent?
