As I remember, I got that figure from the CRC handbook, but I have that
book packed away and can't get to it at the moment. I just checked
Wikipedia, which gives solubilities at 10C and 20C of 38 g and 46 g, but
that's per 100 g of water, not per liter.
As an old, retired chemist, I'm sure you know that solubility tables are
notorious for huge variations among different sources, but my own
recollection is that a liter of water will dissolve a heck of a lot more
that 38 or 46 g of the salt.
