Hi All,

I am having difficulty getting the Ethanol 70%. I  haven't been able to find it in Home Depot or Lowes and the online suppliers will only sell to organizations, not individuals or homeschools (us). Did anybody else have this difficulty? If so, what did you do to solve the problem?

Thank you!

You should be able to find it at Walgreens, CVS, or most other pharmacies. If all else fails, you can order 95% ethanol from Home Science Tools.

Yes, the Klean-Strip Green denatured alcohol will work fine. It's
essentially 95% ethanol.

Is any denatured Alcohol fine?  If not, how does one tell if it is?  This is one I found that I'm wondering about specifically:  http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?partNumber=622045-78-QJDA304&langId=-1&storeId=10151&productId=50298073&catalogId=10051&cmRelshp=req&rel=nofollow&cId=PDIO1

I just searched for an MSDS for the Jasco Denatured Alcohol at that link. Most denatured alcohol is 90% or more ethanol, with minor amounts of other chemicals to make it undrinkable. This Jasco stuff is only 30% to 50% ethanol with most of the remainder being highly toxic methanol.

I've used the denatured alcohol sold by Home Depot, which works fine.

70% ethanol is also available by the pint or quart in most drugstores and some big-box and dollar stores. I'd use it by preference if your local drugstore carries it.
