Its only two days back that Nepal made a history electing a first President and Vice President of Federal Republic of Nepal. And today, while taking an oath, our Vice President took an oath in his local language rather then in Nepali language. Isn't this a surprising and disappointing for all the Nepalese who are very much patriotic towards their nation? From my personal view, first VP Jha is a citizen of Nepal and secondly he has been elected as a Vice President of Nepal, not a VP of terai or particular one part of Nepal. I don't know if my logic is write or wrong, but once I heard him taking oath in other language rather then in national language, my words came in this form of words.

This is obviouse that after 240 years of suppresion by one language policy most of us have loosed our patient to hear other languages in formal programs. But I also disagree with VP's oath in Hindi Language because this language do not belong to any of Nepalese community. Instead of taking oath in Hindi if he could have taken oath in Maithili or Bhojpuri or other Terai based language it really appreciable.

Everone should have right to speak their mother language in any occasion no one must not pressurise on speaking Khasbhasa now onward.

It is not Nepali language it is Khas language, it is not needed (compulsory) to know khas bhasha by every Nepalese people. Language originated from land of Nepal would be enough to speek by Nepalese People.

This is a free country. People are free to practice any religion, people with any cultural dress and language are respected and freedom of speech is our biggest right. I dont understand what should bother us if VP uses his freedom by taking oath in language he is comfortable in.

I think we should stop being disturbed by these small issues. We are in a transition phase, and there are many other things that need our focus.

No one has forced him to use the language spoken and originated here in Nepal, but he intended to take oath in Hindi which is not spoken as mother tongue in Nepal by default. This is the matter the demonstrators are protesting on his oath.

It's true that we have more important issues to deal with but that doesn't mean VP can undermine people from other ethnicity..say..nepali, newari,sherpa,maithali,etc.. by speaking a language that only he is supposedly comfortable with.

He being a national figure, should have used a language that would include Nepali as a whole rather than a very small section.

Even though we are influenced by our big neighbour in many respect, we Nepalese should remember to maintain our nationality and always promote it.

What do you mean forced? He is VP because of the people of this country - so is he not answerable to them?

How would you feel if your next VP took his oath/speech in French/German/Danish just because he feels “comfortable in” it! Or if SONIA GANDHI took her oath in Italian? Or better still Obama taking his speech in Arabic/Chinese?

I feel this is not a question of comfort – it is either that we have a VP who does not know that hindi is not nepal’s national  language or that he was made to do this intentionally by some one who wanted to create a stir !

totally agree with Anju..he is the VP of the whole of Nepal, not just
Madhes..he should have the broad mindedness to include the sentiments
of all nepalese people regardless of region or language. And as for
using Neplai,it is the national language of Nepal and the official
language for government formalities .There are many mother tongues in
Nepal but not evryone understands them all.It would b absurd and
incomprehendible if each of us speak only "our mother tongue".We may
be any cast or creed but we are all Nepalese.above and beyond all
other divisions.Similarly we may speak a diff local tongue but Neplai
is still our Language,we are all united by this language ,just as we
are united by any other national value.

And the most outrageous point is,that was not even a nepali mother
tongue or local dialect..That was Hindi.Who was he trying to impress
anyways..

And I do not agree to it being a small issue. That was an official
function of national and international importance...using a foreign
language for it makes no sense. If Nepali is too difficult for the
first VP of Nepal,he could have choosen his mother tongue, whatever
that is..or English..at least it's an international language..why
hindi???
