Meet Mochi! Mochi is a very well-mannered gentleman who loves getting pets and attention. Despite being a bit stressed in the shelter environment, he has been polite and friendly with everyone he meets, maintaining a gentle and loving demeanor. Mochi walks calmly on leash and uses the bathroom as soon as he goes outside, indicating that he may be housebroken and/or crate-trained. He knows some basic commands and will happily sit nicely for treats.
Mochi enjoys playing with his people but has also shown that he can self-entertain with his toys. He’s equally content to lie by your feet while you work or watch your favorite TV show. Mochi has spent some time on sleepovers and is currently in a foster home where he is being quite the perfect pup! He has not had one accident in the home and lets you know when he needs to go out. He has done well around the foster cat and dog although they are still in the acclimation period so they haven’t directly met yet. He does okay in a crate or room when left alone but may let you know his displeasure with some vocalizing for a little. He is improving on his leash skills too! His foster said he is truly such a good dog and anybody will be lucky to welcome him into their home!
Mochi participated in playgroup here at the shelter. He took a little time to warm up and was content just coexisting with the other dogs at first. Once comfortable, he engaged in a gentle “push-and-pull” playstyle with the other dogs.
Unfortunately, Mochi has some medical needs going on that we noticed. At a recent vet appointment our vet saw dermatitis on his abdomen and groin area, we have started him on treatment but if it does not improve he may need further diagnostics. While in foster, Mochi has also exhibited limitations in being able to do stairs and jump up on furniture. He is presenting with a normal weight bearing gait but does exhibit crepitus in both stifles which may be an indication of arthritis.
Mochi is a staff and volunteer favorite here at the shelter and we are hoping he can leave the shelter life behind for good! Mochi is hoping for a Christmas miracle with a rescue organization or forever family! Please give Mochi a chance and you will truly be rewarded with the perfect pup!
