Located: Abingdon, VABrock AT RISK - Anonymous Sponsorship $200 PLUS $250 sponsorship from Deaf Dogs Rock - pittie mix, gray/white, male, 10y+, 65lbs. SENIOR ALERT! SPECIAL NEEDS - SUSPECTED DEAF! Brock is a chill, curious dog who is suspected to be house trained and may be deaf (absolutely no reaction to multiple loud sounds around him.) He seemed to really enjoy hanging out in the yard with us today and was calm as can be when we handled him. Brock's eyes are a bit foggy with age but he still retains at least some vision; otherwise, he's in good body condition. He was owner surrendered alongside Cash following the death of their previous owner. UPDATE: Dog tested well with multiple partners! He's a chill, happy guy! Did great walking through the cat room.
Cash AT RISK - Anonymous Sponsorship $200 - pittie mix, sandy brown, male, 5-8y, 55lbs. NEUTERED! Cash was surrendered with Brock following the death of their owner and is currently showing some fearfulness, though he is sweet in temperament and gave us a few wags. Zero aggression shown, just very timid. He showed good independent behavior while exploring the yard with us. He has noticeable broad hair loss and skin issues but many spots appear to be regrowing (additional photos available). Cash is otherwise in good body condition. UPDATE: Dog tested well! Cash has relaxed quite a bit since we initially met him, is much more comfortable, and is absolutely ready to make new friends. Did great walking through the cat room!
Tanner AT RISK - boxer/husky mix, brindle/white, male, 3-5y, 75lbs. Tanner is a strong, playful adult dog with a curious spirit and a most excellent "sit"! He's treat-motivated and takes every one with the gentlest of manners. Tanner is a curious and outgoing guy, and we suspect he may be housebroken. He appears overall healthy but does have some scabbing of unknown origin on his nose (additional photos available on request.) He came to the shelter as a stray. UPDATE: Dog test - Tanner was a little uncomfortable with his random partner but reacted like a total champ. Video available!
Pascal - Anatolian shepherd mix, tan/black, male, 9-12m, 41lbs. Pascal is an energetic, outgoing young dog who we can promise will be THRILLED to meet you! Give him belly rubs and he'll be putty in your hands. Playful and curious with delightfully expressive ears, always prepared to approach the world with a nonstop wagging tail and a friendly lick. Pascal appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as a stray. UPDATE: Dog tested well!
Oreo - poodle/terrier? mix, black/white, male, 2-4y, 40lbs. Oreo is an adorably scruffy pup with a playful, friendly temperament. He's great on the leash and makes new human friends with ease. In addition to his winning personality, Oreo showed us a wonderful "sit" and followed our lead to be weighed like a total pro. A bit goofy, very outgoing, and spunky in the best way. Oreo appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as a stray.
Carmello - pittie/border collie mix, chocolate brown/white, male, ~1y, 49lbs. Carmello is a super energetic, outgoing young dog with a flair for fetch and a friendly attitude with strangers. Very playful, a true extrovert, but could use some help with learning manners (he'll be VERY thrilled to meet you!) Carmello appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as an owner surrender.
Community Requests (Pre-Shelter)
Honey - Honey is a petite redbone hound mix around 40ish pounds and 4-5 years old. Super sweet (thus her name). Likes lots of attention and pets. Good with other dogs and kids. Cats unknown. No known vetting. UPDATE: A local rescue has taken on Honey's puppies. However, Honey is still in need of a place to land! ❤️🩹
