These dogs have been with us the longest, waiting patiently while the shelter grows fuller by the day. Sadly, their time is running short. Although we are doing everything we can to hold them safely, when kennel space fills, these long-stay dogs are the first in jeopardy. Rescue commitments and timely pickups can truly mean the difference between life and death.

Dog Assessment: During her initial playgroup assessment, Madison showed appropriate, manageable behavior with other dogs but limited interest in social engagement. She offered good greetings in the catch pen and was steerable with tools throughout. While she occasionally approached the helper dog, placing her head over the other dog’s neck, she showed little interest in play and did not actively seek interaction. At this time, she presents as more neutral and independent in a group setting, and may benefit from continued, low-pressure exposure to build comfort and better define her social preferences.
A noticeable shift happens once Madison is outside of the kennel environment. Though she can feel overwhelmed in the shelter hallways, she relaxes in open spaces and begins to show a more playful side, especially with toys. She enjoys engaging with her environment, knows how to sit, and is less motivated by treats than some dogs. With her striking golden eyes and thoughtful demeanor, Madison is a dog who will likely thrive in a calmer setting where she can continue to build confidence at her own pace.
