Warmest Wags,
The HTAR Team

Happy Tails Animal Rescue of Washington County, VA
Located: Abingdon, VA

Roker - Pittie mix, reddish brown, male, 3y, 68lbs. Roker is a big, handsome, muscular fellow with a lovely personality - just a thoroughly relaxed, curious, friendly guy who's happy to take the world as it comes. He explored the yard with us at a leisurely, self-assured pace, checking things out with calm confidence. A genuinely pleasant boy who made our time with him today easy, despite being surrendered not long before we met him. Roker appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as an owner surrender. 5/13 UPDATE: WONDERFUL DOG TEST! Playful and relaxed!

Aslan - Pittie mix, brindle, male, 6-8y, 46lbs. NEUTERED! Aslan may share a name with a legendary lion, but this mellow fellow is more of a gentle, go-with-the-flow kind of king. Calm, friendly, and relaxed, he strolled around the yard with quiet confidence - waggy, curious, and totally at ease with whatever came his way. He's also great on the leash, which is just the cherry on top of an already very appealing package. Aslan appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as a stray. 5/13 UPDATE: GREAT DOG TEST! Relaxed and approachable - lots of wags!

image.png image.png

Kate - Hound mix, black/tan, female, 1-2y, 51lbs. Kate is pure, unapologetic puppy energy in a grown dog's body - bouncy, wiggly, playful, and extroverted to her core. She is the dog at the party who introduces herself to absolutely everyone and has a fantastic time doing it. She appears overall healthy, with super expressive ears that can’t be tamed! Kate came to the shelter as an owner surrender alongside Hank due to their owner's move.  UPDATE: GREAT DOG TEST!

Anya
- Malinois mix, black, female, 1-3y, 47lbs. Anya is an absolute standout - gorgeous, sweet, and focused in a way that makes her a real pleasure to work with. She's friendly and engaged, walks beautifully on leash, and even threw in a perfect sit just to show off a little. With her stunning looks and wonderful temperament, this girl is the whole package. Anya appears overall healthy. She came to the shelter as a stray.  UPDATE: Anya is "dog reactive" and would likely do best in a single dog home.

Benton – Shepherd mix, black/tan/white, male, ~3 months old, 10-15lbs. Benton is an absolute delight – a playful, curious, roly-poly little guy who doesn’t seem to know any strangers! Benton was pulled to vetting a few short weeks ago due to puppy strangles/juvenile cellulitis. The vet reports that he’s responding fabulously to the meds and is mostly back to normal now! He is expected to make a full recovery due to quick treatment. Benton received DHPP 5/13. Benton came to the shelter as an owner surrender and is now flourishing in a HTAR foster home.

Pixie – Pittie/lab mix, white/tan, female, 2-3y, 58lbs. SUSPECTED HOUSEBROKEN - will only use her kennel as a last resort.   Pixie is a wiggly, outgoing, friendly girl who is absolutely delighted to meet you and wants you to know it immediately - curious and engaged. Just a happy girl! She appears overall healthy but is currently in heat. She also has some discoloration around the fur of her neck due to an old collar or chain, but her skin looks good. She came to the shelter as a stray.

image.png image.png

Coraline - Shepherd mix, red/black brindle, female, 6-9 months, 33lbs. Coraline was surrendered minutes before we met her and was understandably a little overwhelmed at first, but it didn't take long for this happy, wiggly pup to settle in and show us just how friendly and cute she really is. She's got that wonderful puppy energy that's hard not to smile at. Coraline appears overall healthy. She came to the shelter as an owner surrender after originally showing up at their house as a stray a month ago.

Hamilton – Hound/boxer mix, brindle, male, 1-2y, 58lbs. Hamilton is a long, leggy, handsome gentleman with the kind of statuesque presence that turns heads. He's an independent soul with a nose that had serious business to attend to - he worked every inch of that yard with total gusto. Confident and relaxed. Hamilton appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as a stray.

image.png image.png

Willow - Beagle/Rottie mix, black/tan, female, 7y, 59lbs. REPORTEDLY SPAYED. Willow is a friendly, curious sweetheart who greeted us with plenty of wags and had absolutely no objections to being checked over - a genuinely easy, pleasant girl to spend time with. One important note: Willow is significantly overweight, which means she overheats easily and is a bit of a slow-mover right now. She has so much good living ahead of her with a little TLC! Willow came to the shelter as an owner surrender.

image.png image.png

Duke - Poodle mix, tan, male, 2y, 62lbs. Duke is a friendly, curious, waggy fellow with some genuinely impressive credentials - he appears to be housebroken, walks well on a leash, and arrived looking relatively recently groomed. Somebody clearly put some care into this boy, and it shows. Duke appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as an owner surrender because his young dog energy was too much for their household.

image.png image.png

Cherry – Heeler/terrier mix, tricolor, female, ~1y, 41lbs. SUSPECTED HOUSEBROKEN. Cherry is a bundle of playful, energetic, outgoing fun - this girl is ready to go and would love nothing more than an adventure with you. She keeps her kennel impressively clean, only using it when absolutely necessary, and has reportedly been great with kids based on her interactions at the shelter. Cherry appears overall healthy. She came to the shelter due to her owner being incarcerated.

image.png image.png

Lars - Aussie mix, chocolate/white, male, 1-2y, 54lbs. Lars came in a little cautious and overwhelmed, but a little patience and kindness went a long way - he relaxed quickly, let us check him over without any fuss, and even gave us a few sweet little licks along the way. 🥰 He seemed to genuinely enjoy exploring the yard with us once he found his footing. He has a patch of suspected flea dermatitis on his lower back; otherwise Lars appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as a stray.

image.png image.png

Barnaby - Hound mix, tricolor, male, 6-8y, 50lbs. Barnaby is an absolute joy - playful, wiggly, and curious, with a nose that treated the yard like the world's greatest scavenger hunt. This happy fellow threw himself into every corner of the play yard with infectious enthusiasm, and it's honestly hard not to get swept up in his delight. Barnaby appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as a stray.

image.png image.png

Speckle - German Shorthaired Pointer/Pittie? mix, black/white, male, 1-2y, 60lbs. Speckle is a friendly, relaxed, curious boy with a nose that doesn't miss a thing - and a voice to match, because this guy is not shy about letting you know he has things to say! He was a little reserved at first but warmed up quickly, and once he did he was a genuinely pleasant, easygoing companion. He also walks nicely on a leash. Speckle appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as a stray.

image.png image.png

Sora + Sari – 2 pittie mixes, black/white, two females, ~3 months, 15-20lbs. These two little girls are the remainders left after the rest of their litter was adopted. They’re both pretty overwhelmed in the noise and bustle of the shelter and come across as rather cautious at first, so they spend most of their time curled up together in their kennel. They’ve been pulled out together for playtime by several visitors at the shelter and the difference between being inside and outside of their kennel is stark. When out of their run and in a quieter spot, they enjoy romping and being the playful little cuties that they are! Both Sora and Sari appear overall healthy. They came to the shelter as owner surrender.
