Subject: Scared Young Chihuahua Mix- Seeking Urgent Rescue! (Baldwin, MD)

Meet Max! Max came to the shelter as an owner surrender due to a family member being sick and they no longer could care for little Max. The owners reported that he is crate trained and somewhat house broken. He lived with a 7 year old child and did well! His owner reported he is shy and might take some time to warm up which is exactly what we have seen here at the shelter. They noted that Max is pretty under socialized with people outside of his family. He is very fearful and shut down here. His owners noted that Max preferred one person in the home but would open up with other people with time.

Here at the shelter he was unhappy for his initial vaccinations and medical restraint but we are sure he was just overwhelmed and confused. With time he has settled in a bit more though. He can be found shaking on his bed in his kennel but with a slow approach he was able to be picked up gently with a blanket. In a quiet room he seemed to relax and even climb into his handlers lap and seek attention. He did anxiously urinate during interactions though so we know he is still scared here. With more time out of the kennel he began to gain more confidence. Due to his current behaviors we are hoping to place him with a rescue organization where he can appropriately be worked with on his behaviors and continue to improve and feel comfortable in a home again.
