Rescue Partner Email

Friday, 5/29/26

As an open-admission county municipal shelter, we cannot simply stop the intake of stray animals. All animals who have passed their hold times are at immediate risk once their hold time is up. Firm commitments with pickup dates are urgently needed to prevent euthanasia. We have many dogs whose times are EXPIRED. They face the very gut-wrenching but unfortunately real risk of euthanasia if they’re not pulled by rescue as soon as possible.

Please highly, highly consider tagging the below EXTRA URGENT DOGS. Ask me if you’d like a video or any other specific info we can provide on a particular one. I’m working on making so I’m able to provide both a full body and headshot for all.

We are VERY, VERY THANKFUL for our rescue partners!!

**Photos may take a moment to load once you open the email**

Ranger (A055868) **TIME EXPIRED** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list NEXT WEEK

Breed/Type: Bluetick coonhound

Age: ~4 years

Sex: Male, Unneutered

Weight: 51 lbs.

Heartworm Status: Negative

Dog-friendly? Yes, currently kenneled with others.*Tested with a 10 lb staff dog and did GREAT*

Notes/What We Know: Ranger is a sweet, mellow dude looking for a place to finally call home. He’s gentle, laid‑back, and listens well! He’s the kind of easy companion who just wants to be by your side. This calm sweetheart is ready to settle in with someone who appreciates a loyal, steady friend/family.

Ruby (055423) **TIME EXPIRED** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list NEXT WEEK

**Alexa has had this dog at her house for a couple days and can attest to her wonderfulness**

**HARD TO SEE her here but here’s Ruby nuzzled against me while I type her very own bio on screen!**

Breed/Type:

Age: ~2 yrs

Sex: Female, unspayed

Weight: ~35 lbs.

Heartworm Status: (needs testing – will test Monday)

Dog-friendly? Yes – VERY VERY MUCH SO

Notes/What We Know: Owner surrender due to “not having enough time”. Ruby's the CUTEST and really well BEHAVED. Don’t let the pic fool you! Her ears DO perk up and in the cutest way. They adorably fan up and down as she navigates and explores new things. Ruby’s smart and good with all dogs. Can be shy at first but once she knows you, she KNOWS you and is good with all people including kids. **Let me know if you want videos of her at my house**

CAVO (A055394) **TIME IS UP NOW** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list NEXT WEEK -CANNOT HOLD ANY LONGER

Breed/Type: Lab/hound mix

Age: ~4 months

Sex: 4 males & 3 females

Weight: 12 lbs

Heartworm Status: too young to test

Dog-friendly? Yes, but only kenneled with each other.

Notes/What We Know: The last of these puppies that were found as strays by a good Samaritan at an abandoned house he was working nearby. He kept them in managed intake for 2 weeks, they came here to our shelter and all but one have found homes. They’re sweet, social, energetic little pups who are already showing off their fun personalities and love for people.

Buglet (A055632) **TIME EXPIRED** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list MONDAY-- CANNOT HOLD ANY LONGER

Breed/Type: Boxer mix

Age: 10 months

Sex: Female Unspayed

Weight: 57 lbs

Heartworm Status: Negative

Dog-friendly? Yes, currently kenneled with Rue

Notes/What We Know: Buglet came into our managed intake program after her owner could no longer care for her. She’s a sweet, gentle girl who walks beautifully on a leash and loves other dogs. For a 10‑month‑old, she’s surprisingly mellow — the kind of easy, soft‑natured pup who just wants to be near her people. Once she settles in and feels comfortable, her personality is sure to shine even brighter.

Rue (A055633) **TIME IS UP NOW** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list FRIDAY -- CANNOT HOLD ANY LONGER

Breed/Type: Australian shepherd/lab mix

Age: 2 years

Sex: Female Unspayed

Weight: 30 lbs

Heartworm Status: Negative

Dog-friendly? Yes, currently kenneled with Buglet.

Notes/What We Know: Rue came into our managed intake program after her owner could no longer care for her. She’s a scared, timid little sweetheart who’s still figuring out the world, but even in her nervous moments she shows her soft heart — she gave us kisses before she was even brought into the shelter. Talk to her gently and her tail starts to wag, letting you know she wants to trust. With patience, kindness, and a calm home, Rue’s true personality will blossom into something really special.

Chance (A055609)  **TIME IS UP 5/30** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list NEXT WEEK

Breed/Type: Pitbull mixes

Age: 1 ½ years - 2 years

Sex: Chance is Unneutered, Red is Neutered!

Weight: 56 lbs. & 75 lbs.

Heartworm Status: Negative

Dog-friendly? Yes, so far great with others

Notes/What We Know: Look at those ears! These sweet mellow and goofy boys came in together under a court order but do not need to leave together—though they do get along well. They love lounging on the couch, walk nicely on a leash, and are always ready for treats and cuddles.

Chance handled his heartworm test like a champ, while Red was a little unsure at first—but with a little reassurance, he settled in and did just fine.

Strawberry (A055921) & Swirly (A055922) **TIME IS UP on 5/30** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list NEXT WEEK

Breed/Type: Red/White Carolina Dog/mix

Age: 6 mon

Sex: Female

Weight: ~20 lbs.

Heartworm Status: too young for test

Dog-friendly? Yes!

Notes/What We Know: **not a bonded pair** Velcro dogs to the max! These girls will make sure everyone knows they’re the babies when they’re being held. They “clutch” onto the person holding them. Well socialized even if they seem timid at first.

Waddle (A055943) **TIME IS UP on 6/1** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list NEXT WEEK

Breed/Type: Am Staff/mix

Age: 5 years old

Sex: Male, Unneutered

Weight: 48 lbs.

Heartworm Status: Positive

Dog-friendly? Yes

Notes/What We Know: THE sweetest soul. Waddle was found as a stray and leans into affection. It’s like he’s finally discovering what human kindness feels like. He’s a snuggler who—since the moment he knew he COULD snuggle—gets close and comfortable. It is truly as if he’s saying “I have never known this. Thank you.” Waddle’s got a tender personality. He's extremely hard not to love. We also have a vid available upon request of him snuggling with Alexa.

Storyteller (A055940) **TIME IS UP on 6/1** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list NEXT WEEK

Breed/Type: GSD, cream

Age: ~3 years old

Sex: Male, Unneutered

Weight: 46 lbs.

Heartworm Status: testing today

Dog-friendly? Yes

Notes/What We Know: Storyteller is still settling in after what was likely a long stretch surviving on his own. So far he’s had a super soft, people-friendly and dog-friendly nature. He may still be decompressing, but we can already see the potential for his personality to blossom once he finally gets the chance to feel safe and cared for.

Bartholomew (A055936) **TIME IS UP on 6/1** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list NEXT WEEK

Breed/Type: Lab, Chocolate

Age: ~12 years old

Sex: Male, Unneutered

Weight: 62 lbs.

Heartworm Status: Negative

Dog-friendly? Yes, he is kenneled with other males and has had zero issue with them.

Notes/What We Know: Ultra frosted-face magic! Bartholomew is a sweet old gentleman with the softest frosty face and kind eyes! He spent the last week in a finder’s care while efforts were made to locate an owner, but no one came for him. We encouraged the finder to pursue rehoming, but he shared that he was not in a position to do so. Bartholomew is a gentle old boy who deserves to live out his golden years well.

Confetti (A055934) **TIME IS UP on 6/1** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list NEXT WEEK

Breed/Type: Border Collie/Mix

Age: ~2 years old

Sex: Female, Unspayed

Weight: ~55 lbs.

Heartworm Status: Negative

Dog-friendly? Yes

Notes/What We Know: Look at this angel girl! Walks well on a leash, does well with everyone and dogs of various sizes. She’s really sweet and to think she was a stray on her own wandering out in the middle of nowhere is baffling! Very well socialized.

Francisco (A055961) **TIME IS UP on 6/2** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list NEXT WEEK

Breed/Type: Staffordshire Terrier/Mix

Age: ~2 years old

Sex: Male, Unneutered

Weight: 59 lbs.

Heartworm Status: Negative

Dog-friendly? Currently kenneled alone/unsure

Notes/What We Know: Francisco was found as a stray. He has shown himself to be a really sweet-natured, smart boy! walks nicely on leash, knows “sit,” and is very food motivated. He happily takes treats and seems eager to engage with people. We still need to do more dog testing with him.

Waterlily (A055949) **TIME IS UP on 6/2** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list NEXT WEEK

Breed/Type: Staffordshire Terrier/Mix

Age: ~2 years old

Sex: Female unspayed

Weight: ~55 lbs.

Heartworm Status: Positive

Dog-friendly? Yes

Notes/What We Know: Please please let’s get this girl get out alive. HELP! She’s a gem and while she’s scared and timid right now there is SO much potential. Pic doesn’t do it justice so please let us know if you’d like video. She doesn’t walk on a leash, but is the sweetest girl and deserves a chance!

Mallow (A055866) **TIME IS UP on 6/04** NEEDS RESCUE COMMITMENT ASAP to avoid E-list NEXT WEEK

Breed/Type: American Bulldog mix

Age: ~2 years

Sex: Male, Unneutered

Weight: 50 lbs.

Heartworm Status: Negative

Dog-friendly? Unsure-need to dog test to be sure-came in very stressed.

Notes/What We Know: Mallow is just as sweet as a marshmallow. He walks well on leash, did great for his heartworm test, and absolutely loves butt scratches and treats. Once he’s comfortable, he turns into the sweetest, bubbliest guy — a total softie who just wants love and a place to relax.
