Chapter Three

into Ashley's house. Ashley's father still didn't know about her and
Ryan dating. It was exactly their two year anniversary was when they
weren't virgins anymore. Once they were done having sex, Ryan
realized that he wasn't using a condom. He walked over to his jacket
pocket and grabbed two of his sister's after-morning pills. Those
pills didn't hit Ashley until the next night. Of course, Ryan drove
over to Ashley's house. Ashley said that she wasn't feeling good,
then suddenly closed her eyes. Ryan checked Ashley's forehead for a
fever: cold as an ice cube. He checked Ashley's wrists for a heart
beat, couldn't feel it. He then checked her neck for a heart beat,
still, no heart beat. Ryan then quietly walked into the visitor's
room where Ashley's cousin was sleeping. Ryan woke Ashley's cousin up
and brought him to where Ashley was. Since Ashley's cousin was only
ten, he didn't know much about life vs. death yet, so Ryan showed
where to check to see if the human was alive or dead by comparing
Ashley's body to Ryan's body. Just before Ryan left, he told Ashley's
cousin this:
"Tell Ashley that I love her and I tried to help her, she'll
understand what I mean."
Ryan then left and Ashley's cousin went and told Joel that Ashley
might be dead. Joel quickly got up once he heard the news and ran
into Ashley's room. Ashley was still as cold as an ice cube. Joel
called 911.
At The Hospital
Ashley was perfectly fine after she was served the feeding tube and
also the breathing tube. The nurse walked out into the visitor's room
and called Ryan over. Ryan fallowed the nurse. Joel got mad because
he knew that the nurse that old Ryan to follow her was the nurse that
was serving Ashley had brought a "friend" of Ashley to see her first
instead of a relative. He waited a couple of minutes for Ryan to come
out, but he never come out. Joel then stood up from his chair and
angrily walked to Ashley's room and tried to get in, but the security
guard wouldn't let him. The nurse then came in.
"Ryan, Ashley's father is fighting to get in, should I let him in?"
she asked.
Ryan thought for a minute.
"Yeah." said Ryan.
The nurse walked to the door and opened it. Joel slid in and Ryan
stood up.
"Do you even know her?" asked Joel.
"Yeah, we've had something to tell you over then past two years."
"What?"
"We've been dating."
"What? Why didn't you guys tell me?"
"Because she thought that you wouldn't approve of me--"
"How did you find out of this so quick?"
Ryan then felt something touch his hand, it was Ashley. She wasn't
fully awake, but she could recognized Ryan's voice. She raise her
hand and held Ryan's hand. Ryan put his other hand on her hand to let
her know he was there for her.
"I was with her last night, I've might of cause this."
"What?"
"The day before yesterday was our two year anniversary and I snuck in
and we had sex and then I gave Ashley some after-morning pills so that
she wouldn't get pregnant."
Joel looked at Ryan, surprisingly.
"Look, I'm sorry. I'll be there for her if she does get pregnant and
I bet she'll apologue for not telling you about all this. She loves
you a lot. She didn't want to keep this from you, but she was afraid
that you wouldn't approve."
"Well, now that I know, I'll think about it." said Joel.
Joel walked over to the other side of Ashley, the side that Ryan
wasn't on, and sat down on the chair.
As days went by and Ashley didn't wake up, Joel got angrier and
angrier at Ryan.
Days Later
One morning, Joel and Ryan met at the visitors room at the hospital.
Ryan was there before Joel, so Joel went over and sat next to Ryan.
"Hey." said Joel.
"Hi." said Ryan.
Then there was silence.
"I love your daughter a lot---" said Ryan.
"It isn't gonna cut it." said Joel, cutting off Ryan.
"What?"
"I don't want you guys to go out anymore."
"Ok."
"You're just gonna take that?"
"Yeah."
"Why?"
"Because I love Ashley and I always listen to her and since you're her
father, I have to listen to you, too."
"Oh, ok."
Joel then walked into Ashley's room and Ryan walked outside. Once
Joel got into Ashley's room, Ashley was awake. Joel went over to her
and hugged her.
"Did you hear?" asked Ashley, after her and her father have been done
hugging.
"Yeah." answered Joel.
Then there was silence.
"Who told you?" asked Ashley.
"Ryan did."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"So, what do you think?'
"No, he's not the one for you."
"What?"
"I don't want you guys to date."
"Why?"
"Because I don't like him."
"How come?'
"Because I just don't."
"Did you even try to know him?"
"No, and I don't need to."
"Why?"
"Because I just don't."
"Can you please, dad, he's really, really, really loyal if you just
give him the chance."
"No, I already met him once and he didn't seem loyal enough."
"Well, how long did you guys talk?"
"A minute."
"Well, what do you expect, you guys talked for a minute. There's not
much to say in a minute."
The nurse then walked into the room.
"Joel, can I talk to you outside?" asked the nurse.
"Sure." answered Joel.
Joel then walked out and Ryan walked in a little bit after Joel
leaves.
Ryan walked over to Ashley and they kiss.
"I love you." said Ashley.
"I love you, too." said Ryan.
They kiss again.
"I tried to convince your dad, but I couldn't." said Ryan.
"I heard."
"If you are pregnant, call me."
"Okay, I was going to anyway."
"I want to be there for you and the baby, but I don't know how now
because we can't date anymore."
"I'll try to convince my dad so we can see each other."
A different nurse then came in. Ryan then sat on the chair near the
bed and looked at the nurse.
"Ashley and Ryan, am I right?" asked the nurse.
"Yes." both Ryan and Ashley answered at the same time.
"The pregnancy test has come in." said the nurse.
Ryan and Ashley looked at each other.
"Okay." said Ashley and Ryan at the same time.
"You guys are parents."
"Okay, thanks." said Ryan.
"Your welcome." said the nurse.
The nurse then walked out of the room.
"What are we gonna do?" asked Ryan.
"I don't know, I don't know...." answered Ashley repeatedly.
Then there was silence.
"Wait, I have an idea." said Ryan.
"Really? You do?" asked Ashley.
"Yeah."
"Then what is it?"
"While your father is out there, we got leave this hospital, pack our
stuff, and until we get our own house, we live at my parents house."
"But knowing my dad, he'll probably look you up in the phone book and
come after us."
"We're moving."
"When?"
"When you get out of the hospital."
Ashley gave Ryan a confused look.
"My parents know how much I love you and what I would do you for. We
were gonna move on the sixteenth, two days after our anniversary. But
after my parents found out that you were in the hospital, they decided
to stay until you got out of the hospital so I could be with you while
you were still in the hospital."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
Ashley kissed Ryan as Ryan kissed back.
"So where are you guys moving?" asked Ashley, after her and Ryan were
done kissing.
"Minnesota." answered Ryan.
"Wow, that far away?"
"Yeah. So what do you think?"
"If it's ok with your parents, then yeah."
"I already asked them and they said yeah."
Since the breathing and feeding tube was released off of Ashley two
days earlier, Ashley just stood up without hesitation and quickly
changed from the hospital cloths to the cloths that she came in. Ryan
and Ashley then ran out of the room, barely missing Ashley's father's
entrance into the room.
