Just before my hard drive crashed a couple of weeks ago and I lost
everything back to my last backup at the end of August... someone on
the list asked if I knew where to get replacement parts for the
Whisper 800 in one of the threads about air pumps.

The answer is sort of. I have not found a repair/diaphram kit which
specifically lists the Whisper 800. However, if it used the same
size diaphrams as the Whisper 600 or the Whisper 900 then there are
kits available.

Go to <http://www.thatfishplace.com>, which will actually take you to
thatpetplace.com. Click on the link for aquariums. In the sidebar
which appears, click on "Replacement Parts" and then in the new
sidebar which appears, choose "Air Pump Parts".

There is a repair kit for the Whisper 900 listed explicitly. If the
800 uses the same size diaphrams as the 900 then you're golden right
there.

There's also the "Tetra Tec AP Repair Kits" comprising four repair
kits. These are nominally for the APXX air pumps, but they also
list Whisper pumps for which they work. And, what do you know...
the kit for the AP200 lists the Whisper 700, 800, 900 as compatible
pumps for its parts. Just noticed this after I was already typing
this message.

However, I would be a little cautious as the other kits in that
category have some errors. If you drill down to the individual item
descriptions, you'll find that the AP50 and AP80 kit is also for the
Whisper 300 and 400 which should also (I believe) include the Whisper
500. At least, I used to have some diaphrams which had tiny writing
on the rim which stated they were for Whisper 300 through 600. For
the AP 100 and 150 repair kit they are very confused as they state
that you'll need two kits which already include two diaphrams per kit
to rebuild the W500 (1 diaphram) or the W600 (two diaphrams). Did
any Whisper pump besides the 1000 have four diaphrams?

If you have an old Whisper 100 the AP30 is for Whisper 100 and 200
also. The Whisper 100 is such a cute little air pump (the old beige
one, not the new blue one with legs), just right for one little
sponge filter.

Anyway, browse the various kits and remember to click on the part
number. That is, after you click on "Air Pump Parts" in the
sidebar, and then click on a product group such as "Tetra Tec AP
Repair Kits" you will see a list of all the products in that group.
Click on the part numbers for the individual products to get detailed
descriptions which will reveal what other pumps they work with.

Some of the repair kits for the new Whisper line also list
compatibility with old Whisper pumps and there's a diaphram kit
specifically for the Whisper 100 and 200, but it does not include
flappers, so one may be better off with the compatible Tetra Tec AP
kit.

Also, the parts for the old Challenger air pumps fit some of the
Whisper pumps.

However, it looks like the Tetra Tec kits have the old Whisper line
well covered, unless you have a Whisper 1000.

I gotta say though, I am really loving my new(ish) Whisper 60.
Quiet, huge air volume. Best air pump I've ever owned so far.

Thanks for the info Jeff! It was I asking for a source of whisper 800
parts. Thanks to your information narrowing my choices down I just
finished sending a email to thatpetplace.com asking if their
descriptions are accurate and if the tetratec ap 200 kit is
appropriate for my whisper 800 (I looked up the whisper repair kits
and the 700/800/1000 are listed as compatible with each other but not
the whisper 900 :-(). You really helped me with this information -
thanks and others are probably helped too! Chances are I will be going
with 2 tetratec AP 200 repair parts replacement kits. Thanks! While I
sent that email I sent a second question to them asking if they knew
of any small (like a mini-jet 400 small water pump) water pumps that
can be run inline and if they do I could be on my way to doing a 1
gallon drum with small bio-wheel or trickle filter filter or maybe
even a smaller container. The latter is one of my favorite dream
projects - a mini- super aquarium! Thanks Jeff and later!
