Hello Gentle Members of this group!
Spring seems to be taking a long time getting here - at least in Maine. But slowly the snow is melting and I know eventually the temperature will rise. I really have an urge to start planting things.
Last week, I made it to the painting group that meets in Lyman - that was the first time we had all (at least most) been together for weeks and it was wonderful to catch up and talk girl talk. Everyone brings something different to work on and I had brought several canvases that were flops and my intention was to paint over them and produce an entirely new painting. When I showed the lovely ladies of Lyman a 15x30 canvas that was a disaster and already had one coat of paint over it - they all said "Stop!!!". They all wanted me to try and save it - so maybe looking at it with fresh eyes is a good thing. Perhaps I had been too hasty in destroying previous works - who knows, but I did heed their advice and have posted the before image and the after image.
You will notice that the original painting was done in a late afternoon light and vivid colors - it was hideous! Far too gaudy - Even a seasoned landscape painter who critiqued it for me, pronounced it a failure. When I gave up on it and began covering it with blue paint, it changed. This is the stage that the lovely ladies of Lyman saw it and they all said it looked like a nocturnal painting. I had never thought of that!!! So with their encouragement - I proceeded with that thought. Below you can see the before and after results. What do you think? Was it salvageable? Or should I proceed to keep covering it with more paint? Give me your feedback.
A warm "Welcome" and "Thank you" to new collectors Phillip from Illinois, Jose from Florida and Donna from Texas. They all purchased their paintings from my eBay site.
Warm Wishes Until next time -
Mary
