Greetings Everyone!
Did someone say "Spring"? Late in February, cabin fever starts descending on those of us in the frozen north. There is still a ton of snow on the ground and it's pure whiteness is being replaced with a dirty brown. But the temperature is slowly rising.
I am currently working on a large figurative painting that has been sitting on my easel for several days now - I had done a small study first and liked it. But when I translated it on a larger canvas - I am just not satisfied with it. It looked too garish - too colorful. So after staring at it for hours on end, I smeared raw umber all over it - completely! Taking a rag - I then wiped out a few spots but pretty much left this veil of umber on all the rest. It did indeed tone it down some, but I think I will let that dry and smear a coat of ultramarine blue on top of that. The effect I am after is a girl standing off stage in the shadows, waiting for her cue. I am posting it here with the raw umber stage and depending on the success of the blue stage (and perhaps even more), I will repost it later. Keep your fingers crossed!!
A warm "Welcome" and "Thank you" to Ron from Hawaii, Joey from Illinois and Rossalyn from Texas on their recent purchases of my paintings from eBay and of course, all my gratitude to long time collector Ford for his continued acquisitions.
Peace and Sunshine to all -
Mary
