Am I Wrong?

Fall is definitely in the air up here in Maine - the leaves are turning and there is a crispness to the air. Love it!
First I wanted to thank everyone that offered suggestions for a name for the just completed painting shown in the last newsletter. Finding a title for a painting is always a struggle for me - sometimes I find it harder that the actual process of painting. So last week , I posted it on Facebook and asked for suggestions for a name and many people came up with some really nice titles based on what they observed in the painting (some of the observations were so insightful).
I began a new painting last week, using a photo from my favorite model. She has such a long graceful neck and beautifully shaped head - this photo shown below really highlights those features. The canvas was first covered with a thin coat of burnt umber and then wiped off - so that there was just a hint of brown. Next I used a mixture of the umber and sap green to sketch in the big shapes and used my rag to wipe out the highlights. As you can see, there is still much to be done but I am now trying to decide if I should put the large flower from the photo into the painting. I like it in the photo,however - in the painting -I absolutely love the shape of her head and a flower would cover it up. So I have a conundrum - beautiful head or beautiful flower? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
