Greetings one and all!
I hope that everyone truly enjoyed their holidays - it was wonderful to spend time with family and friends but it can be quite exhausting, can't it!
The New Year holds so much promise for each of us - new beginnings in our spiritual, personal and professional lives. There is a lot of plans in the works for a revamp of my website, Etsy store, eBay and even this newsletter. I have been waiting for sales to pick up so that I could afford some major overhauls and fortunately December proved to be a good month. The chatter that I hear over the internet about sales in the art field increasing seems to be the case. Yippee!!
Anyway - I did want to post this painting that I just finished a few days ago. It was done entirely from my imagination. I had just finished reading a biography of N.C. Wyeth and as he is one of my favorite artists and was really big on imagination - I thought I would try to exercise mine and maybe give a nod to his style. His style is semi-loose, with lots of brushstrokes, wonderful shadows and great composition. Composition is one of my bugaboos - so very hard for me. I also tried to reduce my palette to just a few colors - mainly burnt sienna, sap green, naples yellow and raw umber. Burnt sienna and sap green go so well together, I think, and since they are both transparent colors, they make nice glazes over each other.
I highly recommend reading N.C. Wyeth's biography - it certainly gave great insight into the man and his methods. But, you know, whenever I read a biography about someone I admire, I always come away a little disappointed. Could be just that I discover that they are all too human with all the flaws that entails.
My many, many thanks to all my collectors this past year - I am grateful to each and every one of you!
May life treat you gently,
Mary
