Greetings one and all:
Hope everyone is enjoying wonderful warm spring weather where you are. It is lovely here - very tempting for plein air painting. Has anyone else been taking their brushes and paint outside?
I am showing a progression of a painting that I just completed. This is a summer view of a scene that was originally from a photo I took last winter in the snow. A lovely small river runs through the quaint town of Alfred. I pulled off the road and climbed down the snow covered bank to get a good angle for reference photos (too cold for plein air!). The first painting from these reference photos was, of course, a snow scene. But I next wanted to try it as it would look in the summer.
For this painting, I took photos showing my progress and color choices. As with the snow scene - I loved the shadows of trees as they crossed the river and went up the other side of the bank. The tall trees in the foreground help to create a great composition as the zigzag of the river crosses and recrosses the verticals.
For those of you interested in seascapes - Stapleton Kearns is posting a progression of a seascape he is working on - This is about the 3rd day of his postings, so check the previous postings too. - check out his blog at stapletonkearns.blogspot.com
Hope life treats you gently,
Mary
