Dear fem(mes) and friends,

It’s femme show season! I’m thrilled to bring you this incredible show and create the amazing kind of magic that comes with centering and celebrating queer femininity.

On May 30-31 you have a chance to see a combination of local and national artists you won’t see together anywhere else.  We’ve got Benji Bombay, Anaís Azul, and Femme Brulée making Femme Show debuts. Alicia Greene returns to host, Boy Baret/Pampi sings and shows you their bare necessities, SPPSSM tackles mansplaining, and Chicava HoneyChild honors Gladys Bentley in a sharp top hat. Plus poetry, storytelling, and musings from SublimeLuv, Rachel Kahn, and yours truly, Maggie Cee.

The Femme Show is 100% DIY, no foundation support, no non-profit board, no executive director salary. Your ticket purchase (and drink purchases!) goes right to the artists, technicians, interpreters and venue.

Want to support us? Tell a friend, post on social media, like our insta stories, move a poster the front of the bulletin board at your local coffee shop.  Are you on facebook? Help us out with those pesky algorithms and click “going” or “interested”! Want to purchase a ticket for someone  w/ limited $? Donate at https://fundraising.fracturedatlas.org/in-the-streets-productions.   Read on below for discount codes, Dancing Queerly events, and the July premiere of “Ladies at a Gay Girls’ Bar, 1938-1969” Sacred Burlesque with Chicava HoneyChild! Wednesday, May 29 Chivaca is an incredible performer, thinker, and teacher - she got an MFA in Black burlesque heritage! I mean really, what’s more badass than that? Take her Sacred Burlesque class while she’s in town for the Femme Show! Wed, May 29, 2019 8:30 PM – 10:00 PM @ the Dance Complex Sign up here
Unleash your sensuality and personal magnetism from within you in a dance and movement exploration that works for all levels of movers!  Sacred Burlesque incorporates the bump & grind of classic burlesque, modern striptease, with Yoni exercises, pinches of Kundalini Yoga, dance, Taoist sacred sexuality, and energetic healing exercises.

12:00-1:30 PM Dance Curious!
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dance-curious-tickets-61384581937
Our famous “speed dating for dance” workshop. 4 mini classes in various styles including Vogue, modern/contemporary, and hip-hop! Queer and questioning where you fall on the dance spectrum? Dance-curious is an evening of short dance workshops ranging from ballet to ballroom for the queer community followed by a social. Dance studios can be challenging spaces for us LGBTQ folks, so come and try dance in a queer-friendly environment and connect with other dance-curious folks.

2:00-3:30: Floor Work with Toby MacNutt https://www.eventbrite.com/e/floor-technique-workshop-with-toby-macnutt-tickets-59606466546
The floor: it's more than just something to stand on! When we focus on the floor, we find an ever-present partner that allows for a wide range of supported movement. This class will cover a framework for floor-based work, including traveling, turning, dynamics, and levels, concluding with a short combination. Bring knee pads or wear thick sweatpants. All experience levels/abilities welcome.

4:00-5:30 PM Dancing and Speaking Queerly

“Ladies At A Gay Girls’ Bar, 1938-1969”  full length Premieres July 27-28 at the Providence Fringe Festival!

It’s been over 4 years in the making, and you’ve seen bits and pieces at The Femme Show, We Create, and Dancing Queerly.  This piece is my personal response to living, touring, and creating with the Femme Show for 12 years. The more anti-femme-misogyny changes, the more it stays the same. So I went back to the history of lesbian communities during and after WWII to connect with our femme forebears, to understand how their contributions were sidelined, and to celebrate femme, butch, and queer courage. Stay tuned at www.inthestreetsproductions.com or via this little newsletter.
